'96 Honda Nighthawk (CB250)

Been Around the Block
hello :D

i've been a lurker on this forum for a number of years now. up until recently, didn't have a bike or the space to work on them. now i do, so i figured i'd give it a shot and get some much needed help and advice from "y'all". i've always loved motorcycles and bicycles, i don't know why, it's a terrible and costly addiction. there really aren't many cafe bikes in this town yet for whatever reason, so i have nothing but the internet and the seat of my pants to go on. please, feel free to give whatever advice or recomendations you can :p

oh, and i plan to make as many of the parts as i can; i have access to a machine shop sometimes.
i will post lots of pictures, i know how illiterate some of you bastards are :)

currently/before (i swear the cat photo is the only stock photo i have of this bike)

thinking about making clipon's, i bough some recenlty, but they are complete shite. there goes $40.

also new steerer tube needle style bearings, new wheel bearings etc.

the best part about this build is that this bike is my only mode of transport besides my trusty bicycle. since i haven owned a car in 5 years, i don't plan to start now.

so, how do y'all think the headlight ears look? i've gotta remake em anyway cause they're CR steel and have no coating and are heavy as all hell. i could "easily" (nothing in machining is easy) make a shorter set. i also don't really know how i feel about that chain guard. it's really difficult to be objective about something you've spent so much time working on. wha'daya guys think, eh?

oh yeah, i need a tank too. i want a cb400 four tank, but those are really pricey. i have a cb750 four tank and an xs 650 tank, both of which were either free or fairly cheap that i don't plan on using. if any of you are interested, i'll post photos or something.

Hey ToastyTofu,

I have a nighthawk 250 project waiting in the wings, so I'll be following this thread with a keen eye! Hopefully I'll learn something :)

Looks great so far!

Brian

By the way, these parts are for sale. Everything I make is also for sale on ebay.

This is freaking sweet! I sincerely enjoy making CAD become reality as well.

It's hard to see, but is your top triple designed for a 33 mm fork?

Laced up an 18 rear hoop. Bored it out 1mm. Port and polished everything. Lapped the valves. Started wiring today.

Going with a 2 into one. Gonna try my hand at making a reverse cone muffler and collector.

Rejetted/rebuilt the carbs.
