Any of you guys turned damascus? Girlfriend makes custom jewelry. Mostly casting gold and silver, she wants me to make her some damascus rings. I've built some knifes from it, but never had it in a lathe. Curious what kind of tooling I'm going to want to buy to turn it.
 
I would think it would have a lot to do with the two or more materials used to make the billet. Ive made a few pieces with1018 and 1045 as they seem to contrast well when etched. That said, im not much help. Ive done a lot of machining and have made billets of Damascus (or what we call Damascus these days) but ive never machined it.

I however wouldn't see any issue with just using TiN coated carbide per the norm for machining any other mild steel
 
I found a guy in Vegas making rods, only one I have come across that specifically mention being annealed. Material is 302 and AEB-L. Should turn like stainless turns, I would think.
