I have a 1978 Honda CB400T twin. It runs for about 30 min and than gets real hot and shuts off.

Would appreciate possible reasons and recommend fix.

Thank you!

Gonna need a lot more info. Standard exhaust / airbox? If so, does it have an air filter in it?

I assume you are riding it, not running it for 30 minutes on the stand??

Yes completely stock, air filter stock as well as exhaust. Yes riding it when it over heats. Yes oil in gear box. Throttle is hesitant from idle and clutch it a bit to get rpm up so it does not stall.

Sounds like you may have dirty / blocked jets in the carbs or the ignition timing is off.

Either of these two can make an engine overheat.
