If you do decide to do this, heat shrink the wires first. Vibrations and time tend to wear away the insulation where it contacts the zip ties. The heat shrink gains you a bit more time.
 
This was mainly stolen from a AV computer application. But point taken in the current carrier version. I was thinking with much smaller wires to flatten out if the standard round version wasn't cutting it. Smaller zip ties too. By the way... do they make round zips?

hotrod guys have been doing this forever. but a handy trick none the less.
