73 CL350 Fork Ear Complication (help)

Hey folks. I'm struggling with the stock fork ears on my 73 CL350. The stock upper triple was cracked so I spent the coin (wife was not happy) on a wicked black anodized upper triple and risers from Cognito Moto.

The new triple is pretty much the same height as the stock triple, but for some reason, after replacing it, I've got this annoying gap between the top of the chrome fork ear and the bottom of the triple. As you can see, and as is always the case with the early 70s Honda fork ears, the fork tube beneath is rusted like crazy.

How do I close this gap again? I've played with the fork tubes etc... but can't seem to right it.

As always, any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

get a piece of exhaust tubing cut to size and start polishing it. Stainless would be best imo but cost more.

Hey @1fasgsxr

Here are pics of my stock upper. Slightly different from what you posted. Thoughts?

I'd prefer to find the fix for the issue, rather than just covering the gap with a piece of tube. Though it's not a bad backup.

Your stock triple clamp has a drop, by switching to a flat one you have lost that much ride height and you enlarged the distance between the top triple and the bottom triple. you will need spacers or a flat lower triple to make up the difference. if you want to keep the stock ears.
