I don't have a multimeter to test things either, so I'm flying in the dark, literally.

A multimeter is pretty well an essential tool for messing with bikes. A cheap unit will do the job of helping to visualise what's happening when things go wrong with the electrickery.

Good luck with your investigations!

Sorry to harp on about this, but want to make sure I buy something that will be trouble free.

Any body running a halogen headlight that is 55/60W without any issues?

It's safe to say that I am, albeit for a few days.

I found the cause if my tail light issue was a disconnected lead, and the hi/lo beam issue is due to a broken solder join in the switch and the original bulb was also installed backwards!

Firstly - thanks for the headlamp tips. I've been looking for a new globe for a week and can't find one locally. I'll buy online.

I'd really appreciate some guidance on the key mods. As follows:

EGR: Can someone please point me to some instructions on how to get rid of the EGR? Is it as simple as installing the blanking plate or should I remove the whole unit?

Jetting: can someone point me to instructions on rejetting and some links to where to buy the best bits for it? I've seen the kit on oo. Is that the best value?

Muffler: if I buy the header and a tip off OO, is there any welding involved? If I decide to cut the current header, do I remove the cat near the bend before welding an extension and tip on?

Very much appreciated.

page 5 towards bottom..for erg removal..dont forget to plug off vacuum feed from manifold (skinny black rubber tube from silver tube that has carby on the end)(don't know how tech you are, sorry if over simplifying answers).just block this tube off at end by inserting a screw in it.
jetting , will find jet sizes for you or someone else may know off the top of their head.

Exhaust, no welding required if you go oo racing way. I had a pipe made by local car exhaust guy and muffler can be bought at a good motorcycle spares shop or ebay. Redline exhausts in adelaide are excellent and can make a pipe..sure other cities have good specialist bike exhaust places too. Go throughout the early pages of this thread for cat removal. Best advice is do the exhaust , it is the best way to gain power .

Just buy the rejet kit from OO when you're purchaisng the exhaust. Get the blanking kit as well while you're at it.

Re-jetting is fairly simple to do. Take a moment to review youtube guides for something like a rejetting a Hond CB carb.

Here is a guide- http://thegoogleof.blogspot.com.au/2014/06/skyteam-ace-125-carb-rejet.html

Well better late than never. Picked up my Ace today. It was built (China) May 2014. It seems that the Skyteam crew are taking note of blog site comments. My bike has a number of changes. I hav'nt been all over the bike yet , but so far I have noticed that the geometry of the rear brake has had a major rethink ,the side stand does not hang so low , the kick starter is modified , the foot pegs are black , it now comes with a sealed lithium ion battery, and I think the exhaust has had a couple of mods. This is all I have so far noted..........Chris..... : ACT

Back again...One other mod is the rear shockies , they no longer have a shroud and are adjustable . I'm reasonably light so will be interesting to see how they perform.......Chris...ACT

Photographic evidence would be good to see!

Just looked at the battery on mine and it appears to be a sealed unit - part number 6MF6L-BS

Any pointers on decoding the ID information so I can find out when mine was built? For info I had the shrouded rear shocks which I replaced.

I also replaced my headlamp bulb with a BA20D H1 unit, it seems to have lasted under 60 miles before the dipped beam has blown. Main beam still works, dipped has power to it but isn't lighting up.

Should I bother with more than one replacement bulb or just invest in a H4 headlight instead? I'm leaning towards a new headlight altogether anyway as the mounting in the bowl for the current one is falling apart already but advice in the meantime will be taken on board.

I am looking at replacing the headlight with a 7" side mounted unit with halogen bulb. This is my short list if it is any help to you. The first three are 35W in case I decide on sticking with that level to prevent risk of overheating wires. The fourth one is 55W. Last one is probably 55W and the only sealed beam one.

At the same time as replacing the headlight I will install a one piece speedo/tacho that has all warning lights.

Leaning towards the black version of this one at the moment. Just a matter of making sure that this and whichever light I select will sit physically and aesthetically well together.

As I stated on my presentation thread on this subforum, I too seem to have an updated/upgraded ACE model.

I can positively say that the fuel cap still leaks like a sieve; the other day I took the bike into a very twisty road and I had just filled the tank to the brim. On a set of 2 very tight left-right handers, i shifted the bike a little too enthusiastically and the fuel splashed through the fuel cap into the side of the fuel tank and onto the road . Not so much as to be worrrying anyway, and actually I think it adds character to the bike ;D.
