It most definitely is.
Don’t know if you’ve ever been, but you can feel the pounding of the water on the windows of any of the nearby buildings.
One of the best places to spend a few days ever.

I have never been, but i hear it's great. I was planning to head south on a multi day motorcycle trip, but i go south all the time (my wife is from Georgia). Its looking like if i stay off the super slab and go by off highway routes it's about 350 miles and 8 hrs of saddle time. I'm not sure if I'd tackle it on the dr650 or the airhead, but it may just be on the list for a destination.

Getting closer, and wrapping up some little details to get the ol girl back on the road. Once I do, I'll get back to building the trailer.

I ended up rebuilding the stock forks for now. I may still go with the rmz450 forks, but to do them like I'd like to, ill need to fabricate a set of triple clamps in order to retain the stock ignition switch, which houses the steering lock. ( You can buy said triple clamps for about $400, but i just can't justify That right now) The steering lock option may be trivial to some, but I really like the option of being able to lock it up for a bit of theft deterrent.

I replaced the dated looking gators with what mr.e affectionately calls leg warmers. Fresh seals, wipers and bushings, as well as a wet sand on the lathe, and the forks are good to go.

Also, planning on doing a little bit of experimenting with gearing. The bike came stock with 15/41 gearing with 525 chain and sprockets. They are fine for most all road riding, but leave plenty to be desired on anything off-road short of wide open dirt lanes. On the trip to Georgia, I swapped on a set of 14/52 sprockets, and while the granny gear first was great for the single track and hills, she was trying to grenade herself running 65 in top gear down the road.

My plan is to try a 14,15 and 16 tooth countershaft sprocket with a 43 out bank, and in theory will use the 14 off-road and the 15 or 16 for my daily commuting.

The street tires and wheels are mounted up (working on building a complete second wheel and tire set for some knobbies, which will be carried along on the trailer)

Going to shorten the chain up tomorrow and take er for a spin (weather permitting)

I'm gonna go ahead and admit, I did not read all 10 pages of this. I'm in anyways though. I'm intrigued by things like dual sports with trailers.

Well, got the old girl pretty well buttoned up last night and took her for an after dark shakedown run. The windshield worked great, but I may do a little trimming to try to stop a little bit of the buffeting in the helmet area.

The 16/43 gearing may be great for highway riding, but its a bit tall for general short commutes and around town, so ill throw the 15 on tonight and see how she does.

Also, added a little more of the blue reflective tape on the swing arm, because safety is sexy after all lol

P.S. Kiley thinks its a troll.. I think Kiley is just jealous because his bike looks like a bloody stormtropper ;)

That bike needs a gnome riding it not a troll... wait, it already has a gnome riding it...

You need to leave your self righteous "spelling stuff right" crap at the door. There ain't nothing right about what's going on in here lol

Thanks gentlemen! Chris, itll be at thaw, your welcome to throw a leg over it and see how she does in the dirt since you've only ridden it on the pavement so far.

Jumped back on the trailer project for a minute. I bent up some 1/2" square tubing to use as stiffeners down the side of the trailer. Its funny, ive bent up a good bit of tubing in my time, including multiple pulling tractor roll cages as well as a full custom cage for a Baja truck, and this stupid pair of pieces has been one of the most difficult things to get the height and bends right on hahaha

I had a little time between class time and a meeting tonight to do a little fab r' kating.

I drew up some plates for the "tongue" in 2D CAD and had the lab down the hall with the fancy plasma cam cut them out. I tacked and welded it up and Viola, we have... well idk, its still not much of anything lol.

Also got the side brace tubes tacked in.

Shes coming along, but without having a real weight, shes feeling like shes gonna have some hips on her if you know what I mean. Not sure what my max loaded weight can/should be as there isn't much research on a swinarm mounted trailer. At least not any info that companies that build these are willing to disclose, so I guess we will have to play it by ear.
