Made it to Burr Oak, Kansas bike Auction. 200+ Bikes, tons of bike parts, and unfortunately 400 registered bidders from Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, Alaska, South Dakota, and who knows where else. Needless to say I was quickly outbid on a couple of bikes.

It sucked. Stuff worth a few hundred (or tens) of bucks was bid way up.

Wanted to go to that. Glad I didn't.

Aren't you supposed to get things cheaper at auctions like that? Not for more.
Not anymore. People get in that I want it, must outbid everyone mentality. Funny to watch, not so funny when it's something you want.

Auctions are hit or miss.
The best auctions happen on a frigid day in the rain ;D

With a good turn out the seller can make piles more money on an auction, because people don't have time to really think about it, they just get in the "I want that" zone and get competitive and the prices skyrocket. Great for the seller, not so much for the buyers

Yeah, I wish! The Mrs and I work for an auctioneer. Her, part time, both in preparing for the auction and at the actual sale and me, part time, mostly just at the sales. We end up having sort of mixed emotions about the prices at the things. On one hand we want things to go for good money because it gives the customer greater proceeds and our boss a better commission. On the other hand it it's discouraging to us, as buyers, because, like everybody else, we want a deal. Bottom line is that it's going to go for what it goes for. And things go in cycles. For a while a certain type of item will go for peanuts and then later you'd think they were made of solid gold! Then, on down the road that same item will be all but worthless again. About the only exception is guns, they always seem to go well.
