My CX500 build.

Hey all, I've almost compted my first bike build. I chose a Honda CX550 Custom because of it's unique engine and not being a particulalry loved bike. 90% of the build was done by me, in house with a turn around time of about 4-5 months.
Anyway, I'll just let the pics do the talking, from the beggining to the end...Well builds never really end do they...

Here, it's almost done.

Haha, busted! Yeah quick polish on the manifolds and 2k clear coat becuase I'm too lazy to polish them again, same goes for the top and bottom radiator tanks.

I have done the brass rod mod, but I'm not running iridium plugs, do they make that much difference? Not fussed how fast she is, if I want to go fast I'll jump on my other bike.

they sure do make a huge change in starting and running

also you must keep one resistor in the circuit so with brass rods you must run resitor plugs

Yeah man, lobster cuts in the rear frame after cutting off the inner box section. Then rolled around a steel plate cut to the shape I wanted and all the cuts welded back up.

I think I pur R plugs in. What do you recommend? BTW starting is super easy, choke on, barely touch the starter and she fires. I let it run for about 20-30 seconds on choke then swith them off.

Nice result. 8)

I like everything except the wheels (personal preference).

What a transformation! Well done!
Can somebody explain to me in greater detail the "brass rod mod"? Will it do any good for a GR650 or is this just a CX thing?

The brass rod mod is when you take the spark plug cap on a CX500 and remove the resistor in the caps, clean out the space and contacts and insert a piece of Brass rod to replace the resistor that is half rotten, then you use resistor type plugs instead. Dont know if it can be done on a GR650?? does it have resistor type spark plug caps??

Nice build. What carbs are you running size etc? I'm looking to change on my build, it's not a CX it's a XV 500 therefore I am guessing it will be roughly similar for carb size and jets.
