Tire ideas?

I'm in love with my k70s-they handle in gravel and dirt and on the road/highway. Definately the all-purpose winner. The Goodyears on alot of WM are strictly for looks and handle for crap; I've noticed they recently started using real track tread tires on their newer bikes.

This is probably the best vintage related tire thread I've ever ran across. Love the look of them K70's & glad to hear about the performance... Thinking real hard about them for my Z1.

Yeah, I've heard the same thing about those Firestone "vintage champions" barely usable is one thing I've read. I found a set of K180's that would fit but at over $200 for the set I couldn't pull the trigger. I ordered the Kenda K761's I'll keep you posted. They should give the bike a more modern look with vintage over tones and good performance.

Oh, another point. I've done a lot of tire shopping over the last year (3 or 4 sets) and in every case they weren't more expensive at my local tire dealer than they were on line. Sure, I could find the tires cheaper but in every case once you factor in mounting and balancing it was a wash. so unless you are mounting your own tires do your research on line and then give your local guy a call. you might be surprised. Buy Local!!

The K70 4.00x18 on my Honda XL350's rear wheel, which is a WM3 (2.15) width.

Tread close up.

Things I noticed.

This tire is HEAVY! 9 1/2lbs.
Skinny, literally only 4 inches across.
Soft tread, pattern looks great for a 'universal'.

I can't wait to ride the XL & feel the difference!

I've opted for Shinko 705's for my SR500 'tracker / dual sport / beach bike / cruiser' thing. 19" front and rear, which made tire selection rather selective.

Still waiting for them to ship from BC.

I've got 705's on my six fiddy, (not finished with her build) but heard great things about them.

Are those Aprillia Capranord < I know I spelled that wrong < wheels? Looks like the spoke goes outside the bead of the tire, which would let you go tubeless. Or them fancy GS wheels maybe?

I wish those were my wheels - they'd be BMW GS I believe. I stole the picture from somewhere.

So, I'm wanting to use the Shinko 705's on my 360 and I'm wondering what the largest size tire is that I can put on the stock front rim? The shinko's are available in only two options for the 18" rims that are stock on the 360. Can I run a 120/80/18 on the front? Which brings up a good question, who's got a good tire/rim size chart!!??

I've e-mailed A&A about getting a set of K180's. Those are the only actual DT tires I can find that will fit my XL350's wheels (once I'm done with the Maxim front end swap) & would like to compare them to the K70...

I'll post up when I get a reply.

Well they were back ordered but I've got a set of K180s (110/80-19 & 120/90-18) coming someday! I'll let you guys know what's up when I get some miles on them. They're going to run a bit over $200 shipped.

I still haven't gotten my K180's from A&A.... Not their fault they say, still haven't gotten a shipment from Dunlop. :(

Update on my Shinko 705's.

Mounted on my custom KZ650 wheels. A BMW / HD 19x2.5" aluminum replacement hoop laced to the stock front & a Trumpet 17X3.5" aluminum hoop laced to the rear.

Barby is running now. Here's a cell phone shot of her down on the river, taking a break after some 'testing'. :)

These tires are AMAZING. They stick to pretty much anything. I know they don't look the part, but I mention them because of their great performance.

If the K180's don't show up soon, I'm going to order a 3.25x19" K70 for the front end of my flat tracker. I've got the Seca wheel in the XL forks, just need to cut spacers now!

More to come.

Am I the only person here?

BAM! I got K180's!

Just mounted them, haven't gotten to thoroughly evaluate them yet but I have high expectations for them.

Bad news is I didn't get them from A&A. I'm STILL waiting.

Here is my ideal on being different. I wanted the looks. I laced a 21 inch rim and went with a 2.75x21 and a 400x18 rear. These are Michelin Competition Trials tires. VERY soft. Sure they wont last long but I love the soft feel.

I mounted Shinko 705's on my 360. I went with the largest tires that would fit and I wanted same size tire front and rear. It was all about the look for this bike. I ended up with the 4.10 X 18 This size is only rated to 93 mph. I have not been able to get the tires perfectly balanced and there is a definite Womp. no wobble even at speed but they shake a lot over 50 mph. I'm thinking I may have an out of round rim (or two) But wonder if the "reversed" front tire isn't contributing. Still working on it but may look at a "rated" tire and see what happens.

I'm struggling to find good ones for my scrambler.

My GS450 has 18's front and rear and it's gonna be too much of a PITA to swap the front out for a 19 even though that would solve my tyre issues...

At this stage it's looking like Shinko 244's if I can find them over here in Aus except that the front 3.00-18 is only rated for 75mph...

If I can safely squeeze the 3.50-18 on there then that will solve that problem with a 4.10-18 on the back. Apparently the 244's are skinny compared to other tyres of the same size so that might work well.

I'd love to get the 705's but there's no way with an 18" front...
