Yamaha LS3 "The One Hundred"

Right a while since an update.... I have ordered new bearings and seals and also a cheap Chinese mini speedo (If it doesn't work at least it was cheap) Ill post up whether or not the bearings are a match, They are for an early dt100 but the early rs100 also uses the same bearings and seals so a bit of a educated guess/stab in the dark! I can always sell them if they don't fit.

Also I picked up a Mikuni 28mm round slide carby for $5 ;D It is probably too big for everyday use but I'll give it a try anyway!

More to come....

** Anyone ever tried to register a motorbike in Queensland with no VIN plate??? Looks like it's never had one?**

Yamaha (like most Japanese manufacturers) liked using the same bits in as many bikes as possible to keep costs down. I bet the bearings/seals you've got are right. To be sure though, take a stab in the dark and call a Yamaha dealership. If you get a knowlegeable parts guy they should be able to find your specific info.

Also, that carb will definitly not work. Great deal on it, but the bike won't run with it.

Take a look at speed&sport.com they have a parts list and part #s to see if there the same or shoot them a call good group of people !

Thanks Guys,

Yeah I talked to the local Yamaha dealer already who was very UN-helpful and basically told me that I was wrong and that my bike doesn't exist ??? He just wasn't interested in talking about anything older than 1985 ::) Maybe he was having a bad day...

I didn't think the carb would work I was really after a 24 or 26 but it was too good of a deal to pass up, Local guys here use 28mm carbys on 100cc Bucket racers with extreme porting etc... I'm gonna try and get hold of a OEM set up from a YZ80 -carby and reed block.

I'm 99% sure the bearings and seals will be correct and as I say if they don't match up I'll just re-sell them.

Ill have a look into speed&sport

Thanks.

Those bars look really nice. To bad they're for a bicycle. Altough i wouldn't mind riding a 100cc bike with bicycle bars...

Yeah I know they fit the bike really well aesthetically but they don't fit very well physically sadly :( I could machine the bar clamps to make them fit but i'll probably just try to find some bars of similar dimensions.

A few more (crappy quality ;)) pics... The Chinese speedo turned up so I went about making a bracket to fit to the stock ignition key location,
Also de-tabbed the frame a bit.

I got a bit more done this weekend, I primed and painted the cylinder and head with high temp gloss black and did the side covers in hammer finish, The Hammer paint has a little bit of a metallic look to it that doesn't really come out in the photos.
I polished then masked off a couple of bits on the side covers.

Also I got the bearings and seals in and the engine 90% back together, And for anyone that was interested the dt100 bearings and seals are a perfect match as predicted...

Those covers look great. I love the detail. I'm looking forward to seeing the engine all put back together.

Thanks dleekent ;D How'd those wheels of yours turn out?

I think they're ok. I may have just freaked out for no reason. I'm planning to put a bunch more clear over everything, but just decided to take a break from painting for now.

I recently bought a '72 LS3 as well. I've got the parts list and the workshop manual if you need details of any parts. If you leave a list of parts, I can write back with the part numbers. Partzilla has almost everything i've needed. CMSNL has alot too, but they're more expensive.

I'm having some carb problems.. but I won't hijack your post. I don't have any experience rebuilding bikes so perhaps you'll be kind enough to read my post and through me a few pointers.

Steve.

Here are a couple of exhaust inspiration pics... I'll most likely go the CR80 motard route using a yz80 pipe or similar...
