1997 BMW F650ST to F650R: Enduro Hellride Conversion

Re: 1997 BMW F650 El Diablo Hellride

The tank is all closed up, so now I’ll need to locate the petcock. When the motor is rebuilt, that will happen. I want to be sure it goes where it needs to be.

I also got a Ducati muffler to replace the stock can...

Yep. They're curved slightly on an english wheel.

This bike is going to make a lot of folks scratch their heads when they see it finished. I know you put up colour scheme with the BMW rondal but I'd debadge it completely and see if anyone can figure out it's origins LOL.

ATK used a ROTAX lump. You could use an ATK badge and really confuse people

"prototype 4 stroke ATK" type deal, since they were all 2 stroke in the ATK iirc.

buddy nick bought one at an auction once. They had some neat innovations with the countershaft mounted rotor to reduce unsprung weight and the spaced chain to keep the tension constant. They are cool machines for sure

Re: 1997 BMW F650 El Diablo Hellride

Converted to a 21” front wheel from a DR650. It was pretty damn close to swapping with no work, but not quite. They both use a 17mm axle, so no changes there.

First, I had to turn 4mm off the DR speedo gear face. Then, I modified the BMW cable end to match the DR receiver...

Then, just a few mil off the DR spacer and we mount right up...

Everything still shows on the drawing, but deleted parts lose their lines.

Header from an ‘05 GS has the perfect bend to tie the Ducati muffler in. Even has a bung for an 02 sensor/gauge. It’ll come in handy tuning the carbs.

We’re going to attempt to run TM34 flatslides. It’s super tight, and I had to make a bracket to keep them off each other. Dialing this things in is going to be a blast...

Glassing up a DR350s fairing and shaping a Super Tenere windshield with heat. Still a long way to go, but you should get the idea where I’m heading...

Wow, this thing is going to be awesome. Easy to say, but everything seems to be falling into place. Watching the progress eagerly....

One major issue with fitment of the TM34 carbs and this frame is the location of the idle adjust. The left carb is right on the frame and the right is between the two. So, with no remote adjusters for this carb, I set out to make my own.

I took a TM33 pumper remote...

separated the cable and screw, and brazed it to the TM34 adjuster that was turned down...

Then, I drill a hole through the frame...

Now I have adjust located out of frame...

I’ll at least plug the hole, but a thought to weld a tube is also there.
