Project Ground Pounder -1981 Suzuki DR500

Nothing major but I radiused the aluminum rear fender yesterday. Don’t mind the blue it’s just a plastic wrap.

Are you leaving the fender bare alloy, or are you painting it to match the tank?

Leaving it raw. I feel like that’s proper with the motor finish. Plus I’d never match that tank patina.

That frame/fork setup makes for a really nice stance.. nice choice of handlebar as well

Thanks man! I dig it as well. It’s an evolving build but so far the choices seem to mesh well together.

Hurco threatened me endlessly with cuddling up to me in my sleep if I didn’t shorten the rear hoop of the Earl’s fork swinging arm, so I did that today. Chopped out and slugged and welded the hoop back on 3” so it would hug the front tire. Can’t believe how much it cleaned up the front end. While I was in there I welded up a headlight bracket so could get that mounted up. Front end is really coming together.

Took me a couple of hours and a lot of grinding dust in my hair but I got the swingarm pivots cut out of the frame and then smoothed down. The tedium is in keeping the integrity of the original frame. Left a couple of bottom gussets out of the original plate since one side holds the brake pedal pivot hole. It really is a nice looking frame all cleaned up. I’m pleased with it.

Seriously though, looks so much better.
