So fresh and so clean.

Thanks guys.

Ive got a can of shark hide here to finish the aluminum.
Its just I am still up in the air between polished or brushed finish.
As there really a ton of factory chrome going on this thing.
Maybe too much "shiny". and the brushed finish might break it up nicely.

I will probably leave the polish for now. Then see how she looks all together. ::)

Don't worry wont last long. As I will be pulling it, like, 9000 miles, and through 15 rainstorms to see you in S.C. in June. 8)

Something Ive gotten into the habit of doing the past couple years. On my other bikes.

A very thin smear of anti-seize on cover gaskets. Thoughts?...

I haven't actually removed any of these covers, yet. Im hoping it doest turn to glue. ;D

Re: Rachels 78 CB400A...generic re-fresh

I've always used Indian Head shellac. Learned from my old man when we raced VWs in the 80s. Helps keep the gaskets from sticking and works as a gasket in and of itself.

Thanks bro! :)

Rachel sure seems to like it. The girls ready to ride. 8)

They do look a little nicer in the pics than up close and personal. Even still I couldn't be more delighted. :D

I have to admit things are coming out pretty nice, for a Elevator mechanic "hack job" in cornfield county Illinois. ;)

Re: Rachels 78 CB400A...generic re-fresh

Trek another way to handle side cover caskets or any that you may want to re-use is to put a little gasket maker on on side, usually the cover and then the never sieze on the case side and then the gasket comes off clean attached to the cover and there is less risk of tearing it etc when you go to put it back on, lose on both sides and you have to handle a gasket that is now soft from oil and there is risk of tearing it.

This is what the Indian Head shellac is. Just an FYI

Ok, so that on one side and never seize on the other and good to go. on both sides won't it stick and tear the minute you try and remove it?

Re: Rachels 78 CB400A...generic re-fresh

Shellac never totally dries and it's easily removed with alcohol.

Cool, can;t find that stuff around me so I've never tried it. Might be worth ordering online.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400A...generic re-fresh

For me it’s not so much, saving the gasket. As it is saving the hour trying to razor blade / air craft stripper the damned mess off the aluminum.

Agreed, it's nice to reuse a side cover gasket when you can but even nicer to get a damaged one off clean in minutes instead of hours.

A little ding repair w hot glue.

Glue didn't stick to aluminum nail so good.
