GS500 Brat - Bike build 2.

I'm looking at upgrading to a portamig 165 with a spot timer, which makes getting tig like MIG welds a hell of a lot easier. Just changing to a decent gas fed MIG will make a world of difference, the 105 is set up for flux core at the moment.

I jigged up the lower mounts last night

And notched the lower stainless legs, which was really very easy - not sure what I was worried about now!

A 165 will be the business. I didn't realise you were using flux core, I think that stuff is crap. I'm using CO2 gas, not near as good as argon/CO2 mix, but that's not easy to get hold of for hobby use.

Nice fab work, I always admire people with skills, even though the base bike you have chosen is totally not my style.
I'll be visiting this topic more to see some more of your kickass fab work 8)

So I've got the lower legs tacked on today, and it's starting to take shape!

So my frame is off at the fab shop being welded up, so whilst I wait for the frame to come back and a stream of parts to arrive I have been playing around in Photoshop, I'm thinking of a very simple colour scheme like this, what do you guys think?

So I picked up my frame early this morning from the fab shop, really glad I paid to have this welded professionally, so much better than I could have done in the shed!

The French vanilla is fine but I would suggest adding some pinstripe, two-tone or a wide center piece on the tank to highlight its shape.

You could angle the two tone to match the subframe angle similar to a stock gsxr scheme.

Good idea, Once the bike it put back together I'm going to have another play with the paint scheme and will post up some options

So this evening I made a start on stripping back on of my fuel tanks ready for a coat of epoxy primer.

The paint stripper here in the UK is shocking, due the EU regulations they took the good stuff out of it, so it would barely touch emulsion paint let along 2k clear. After adding some of the good stuff back into a can of normal paint stripper it went through the paint on the tank like a knife through butter. I DO NOT recommend doing this, and it was carried out in very well ventilated area with all the PPE I could find.

This is the finished result after hitting it with a wire brush on a grinder, next job is to kill the rust with some jenolite and hit it with some Epoxy primer.
