KZ550a Resto-mod

If any of you have looked at my previous build threads, you know I pretty much suck at keeping them updated and interesting. This one will surely be no different. I picked up this sweet little 1981 Kz550 from Mr E a while back with a busted 2nd gear in the transmission. So far I have managed to take one before pic, replace the transmission and strip the rest of the bike down. The plan is to do a resto-mod rebuild and have it ready to ride to the Spring Thaw! And I will try to keep this thread updated better than my others....... but don't count on it.

if you need anything, ive got a parts kz550 bumming around. not a ton of good stuff on it, but if you come up short on a piece or part, just let me know

Nice. I'll be following. It'll be cool to see this running instead of leaning on E's garage holding the wall up. Poor thing has been replaced by a big mound of red dirt.

Will enjoy watching the build. I picked up my next build the other day, a 1980 Kawasaki Z500. Put under covers for now until I finish my '77 CB550 that I am still putting back together. Keep sending updates.

So a little progress to share. I took the frame to our local sandblaster and threw down a little paint on it.

Fixed a Gpz oil pan with a stripped out drain plug by rethreading one size up so I can run an oil cooler.

Put some paint on the engine and got it back in the frame. New progressive fork springs are on the way to freshen up the front end.

Not done yet, but the wiring harness is going on. New progressive springs came in for the front and new Hagon shocks for the rear should be here Thursday.
