1976 Honda cj 360

Check ammeter on charger, 10 a for couple of mins is enough to 'screw the pooch'
Even on 10A setting it may only be putting 2~3A due to internal resistance, if it was in the 6~8A range, you need a new battery

So when I left this am battery was 12.69v and when I got home put my meter on it and it held at 12.6 and didn't drop. What should I do ride it or replace it?

Chris

Well how about I ride it to work tomorrow 12 miles and then see what it says when I get there.

Chris

You're missing the point. If you ride it or charge it, you're changing the resting voltage. You can only get a decent reading if you leave it for 24 hours without doing anything to it.

So this morning it's down to 12.55vdc. Do down 1.4 vdc since yesterday morning. Bad?

Chris

12.5V or above is just fine for a lead acid battery.

That's only half the story, but it is the first thing to check. The other thing is a load test. If your ride goes fine to and from work, I probably wouldn't worry about it though.

So got home bike had set 30 hrs it was at 12.54 vdc rode 5 miles came home bike was at 12.51vdc. Gonna let it sit and she where she ends up

Chris

It's now 6 o'clock. Rode it started it turned lights on without it running and now it has rested and it bounce right back to12.54 vdc. Got to be good doesn't it?

Chris

Well guys looks like I'm gonna have to sell this bike. Space and funds are needed. If anyone is interested let me know. It's been a good build and I'm sure I will do many more. Pm me if you wish

Chris

Here you go .

It's worth the time considering how much work you have done and the great results you achieved. How many bikes will you have the opportunity to elevate to such levels? You can't take pictures after its gone. Thanks for the build.
