That BMW next to your DR is rad!
Yep it is, and a (pleasantly) surprisingly capable machine on and off road.

I've realized as of late that I have not been updating to many of my project threads, and this darned bike is why. Most of my spare "motorcycle time" that I had been spending on wrenching/ building, I've now been spending traveling and riding. A few weekends ago, it was a 230 mile loop on the street rubber to the air force museum in Dayton, then last weekend was spent riding off-road with Mr.E in the north Georgia/ Chattanooga TN area. Someday the weather will get cruddy enough to get in the garage again.

Looks awesome. I hate that I couldn't get up there. After Mid-O, I won't miss again.

It was fun for sure. One stretch of trail was pretty technical and gave me a real test on my off-road "skills" lol then Ephraim made us go back and do it the other direction ha. I'm really trying to live it up this summer with the baby on the way. The saving grace may be that we go to Georgia often, and there is no reason that the trailer can't haul a stroller and a motorcycle, right!?

Well, I decided that it was time to get back on the trailer project as I've left it sit in the corner long enough. Though it may not happen, I got another cold front of wind in my sails to point a bike in a general direction and take off for a couple day ride this summer. I've gone back and forth between this being my steed of choice for such a trip, or my 1976 BMW. At the moment I'm leaning back towards the dr650, mainly because if something breaks between here and my destination, the odds of finding a dealership with parts for a dr650 is far greater than finding parts for a 43 year old German machine.

Tonight I finished up the pieces for my "universal joint" trailer hitch. It utilizes a spacer similar to what you find in bike wheel bearings. The hoop that attaches to my swing arm will be welded perpendicular to the outer tube which will be my second "axis" of movement. (the 3/8" all thread is temporary and will be replaced with a 1/2" stainless bolt)

I'm still playing around in my head the best way to mount the spare wheel set, but right now I am thinking that I will build a frame over top the box that will hinge out of the way, but will also be lockable to keep the box from being opened easily.

Like most projects that I do, im winging it, so the jury is still out on what the final product will be.

You have great fabrication skills and I'm sure this is going to turn out great.

The fiberglass wrapped street sign bash plate served the last 5,000 miles well, with a few good saves and battle scars. A guy on adv rider was selling off a used skid plate that fits a treat and will have a bit better side case protection. Getting ready for a dual sport adventure here at the end of March down in Georgia/ Tennessee.

Had a great weekend of riding with cyclefreak, ccrider, irk, and Mr.E in the (Dusty) red dirt of Chattanooga Tennessee at Prentice Cooper OHV park last weekend. Though the pumper carb+whiskey throttle put the girl and I down in a torque fueled rage of glory, she did me well as usual. Always a treat to ride with these fellas, and a testament to this site. Sure it's a cafe racer forum, but I wouldn't know a one of these fine gets (and Ephraim) if it weren't for randomly signing on here 7+ years ago.

It's like I wasn't even there. Oh, how easy it is to edit someone out of an adventure.

You gotta quit just looking at the pretty pictures and read every once in a while son! Lol but for real, those are the only two pictures I really took of the two days the group was riding haha

That last photo's brilliant. Lucky the smell-o-vision on my computer is busted though.
That picture was a pretty direct result of this Creek Crossing. This particular video was taken by CC Rider via GoPro attached to his helmet. The camera also doesn't do well showing how cold that water was in my boot LOL

Now you add me to the adventure with the lamest creek crossing ever. Lookey that rooster tail, son.

Looks like fun - can't say for certain that I would've ended up in the drink but I wouldn't bet against it.
