Let's see your Garage / Shop

Dude, awesome. That is just what I want. Think I am going to have to build a shed for that though.

My 24x24 is a little crowded right now. I am almost done with my 12x16 shed. I'll use it for storage. There are a few bikes and a bunch of parts in there already.

It's hard to share space with an old 17ft long Plymouth, but this is my best effort. Compared to some of these spaces, I feel like the Redman episode of MTV Cribs. The back building is wood shop and studio.

I searched and couldn't find a thread like this, other than a current one that is one member's build thread.

If there IS one, sorry.

Anyway, I typed up a LONG post about my shop and attached several images, then accidentally closed the browser window.

Long story short, it was my late Dad's concrete block 2-bay double overhead door boat shed with a fish & game cleaning room and 2 storage rooms. I cut a hole in the back wall between the 2 bays, poured a slab out back big enough to relocate my steel building open carport and single-bay enclosed shop, and then enclosed the carport and installed 2 more overhead doors and a back door leading to my back yard.

I wired the place for 208/230, with 110 all over the place including all fluorescent lighting. I also removed the plumbing from the game cleaning room, as well as a huge poured-in-place concrete table for cleaning fish and quartering game (that became my office).

My old shop remained my shop, but I have added a partition to contain cooling from a small window unit A/C. The boat bays became one bay for my regular riders, and the other for day-to-day maintenance and prime rider parking. The new 2-bay garage is storage for the bulk of my collection.

The other section of the shop taken from the barn door end, with the opening to the boat shed bays on the near right, and the opening to the garage bays on the far left. More suspended lumber shelves on the lft for project staging, tubs underneath; parts bins on the right with cluttered countertop

Topics merged - if anyone finds more threads about our garages let me know and I'll merge them in too. I think we've had a few over the last 8 years :p

My garage is used for business and i needed a place to work so my wife was cool with me having a work space in the house as long as she can't smell anything, so i sealed up the space really well and installed two 300cfm exhaust fans used for hydroponics.........awesome fans, have a plastic housing and look like turbine blades inside, very quiet

I still have more that I want to do so that I use the space as efficiently as possible, but it works for now

English wheel: Check
Frame jig: Check
Blast cabinet: Check
Mini mill/lathe: Check
Clean: How do you do that.......?

Very nice set up.

Cool, looks like the moderators combined the threads with a better searchable title.

There are some really nice shops here; way too clean for me, though...

there is a shop vac in the corner next to the bench, but really the pic was from last week and i have been cutting on the lathe so there is all kinds of chips and strings on the floor. To be honest, I can't stand a messy workspace, never could.......when I turned a wrench for a living, you could tell where my bay was because the floors were spotless, bench clean, and tools cleaned and put away....the other guys I worked with were essentially pigs and I guess it fuelled my need to stay clean and organized. The first mechanic I apprenticed with instilled this in me, awesome mechanic he was and always said "take care of your tools and space because its what puts food on the table"

3,000 Sq.ft of clutter right now. Trying to rearrange, move some more machinery in. Just one mill and lathe at the moment.

I wish I had that kind of space.....it looks like its coming along though
post some more pics when you get it set up the way you like

I need to post up. I agree with you Kamn on the clean space. I work, it gets dirty but at a certain point I stop and put everything away, sweep up, clean up, then start working again, otherwise you spend more time looking for tools than using them LOL.
