Another T500

Coast to Coast
So now that the rattle-can racer is pretty much taken care of (for now anyways)
I figured i would get started on rejuvenating this sucker.

It looks half decent, but don’t let that fool you.
Everything i’ve touched on it was hand tightened only, and the frame looks to have been repainted, as well as the swing-arm.

I seem to hit a neutral between every gear, and when i was rolling it backwards it suddenly locked up on me. I could roll it forwards but not backwards past a certain point.
Compression is low 90’s, and the crank case was full of gearbox oil. The RHS studs also had a lot of water on them...

This should hopefully be a straight forwards project, repair/rebuild engine, refresh electronics, reassemble.
Not gonna paint the tanks just yet, they only have their original suzuki paint once.

So far the engine is out and apart.
Gotta wait on crank seals and gaskets and find out why i kept hitting false neutrals in between gears.
Bike has 8000km on the odometer.

Ya, i’m pretty pleased.
These damn things are rarer than hens teeth around here, i’ve only ever seen 2 that weren’t mine.

Engine crust is de rigueur

Bit of power wash later and...

Still crusty.
Time for a bath in a pail of diesel.

After a wee bath in a pail of fuel and a powerwash.

Much better, now to wait for the second half to soak.

Waiting on seals, pistons, gaskets etc.

Thoughts on what to do with the rusty chrome bits, probably paint the exhausts, and try to scotch brite the rest.

And the bottom end is back together

I just started a part-time job at a local motorcycle repair and custom shop here in Montreal - the owner is a 2 stroke wizard. I know absolutely nothing about 2 strokes but hoping that'll change in the months to come! Keep on keepin' on man, looking forward to seeing this bike come together.

I had a set of heads someone had polished up a bit so i stuck those on.

Fresh rings and a light hone on the standard bore. Chamfered the ports up at the same time, they were sharp like a knife and would have chewed the rings up in no time.

Engine back in, carbs cleaned out, exhaust mounted.

Starting to get sick of lifting these engines into the frames. Damn they’re heavy!

After some brief assembly
And way too much kicking like a retard
I realized the ht leads were reversed and managed to get her fired up

Right carb pissing fuel though
And i decided against the airbox and for uni pods.
I gave up trying to get the airbox back on
Fuck that shit.
