The bottom clevis only needed a couple washers for spacers. I didn't tighten everything up too much since I have to do a little more welding for the electronics bracket and some more painting:

Digging the build man.

Thanks for the encouragement, man...

I got the wheels with the tires mounted. I think the front is backwards. It "looks" right, but the arrow on the side is pointing the wrong way -- I think...Anybody have experience with these 705s?

They also managed to splatter oil all over them. Oh, well...

Anyways, they managed to mount em without scratching the rim up too bad. I think they look as good as a Comstar could hope to look:

This thing is starting to look a little bit like a motorcycle. I still need to make a seat get the tank painted and do all the wiring, but at least I can start to see the end game. I need to lower the forks, so if you guys have any advice on that -- it'd be appreciated. Here's what we got so far:

I'm a little concerned about the seat loop being too long. It extends well past the rear wheel center. Is this thing gonna look like a banana seat? I guess we'll have to wait and see...

The rear wheel axle is almost all the way forward because of the new chain. I guess it'll stretch a bit. Maybe that'll help a little with the aesthetics when it does. I think lowering the forks will help, too...

She's looking good. Love those comstars -- is that a satin black? Also I agree on the tail length. Sub'd!

Waiting for the glass to cure. I did the "plastic over metal tape over blue tape" technique that you've probably seen in other builds. I used three sheets of fiber and flooded it with resin and hardener and used cooking spray on the plastic as a release agent. I wanted to make sure that I molded it over the bolt for the tank, but for some stupid reason I left the tank on. This made it a pain -- didn't realize it until I started pouring resin. Hopefully it turns out:

Good luck on the seat.

... And as far as the hoop goes, it looks pretty good to me. Never even noticed it being long.

Thanks, man. Supposedly a matte finish, but I'd describe it as satin. Rather it have more sheen than less -- so I'm glad it went that way.

I'm just gonna keep going an if the tail still seems long after I get it together then I'll just hack it off. For some reason you seem like the type of guy that would know when anything starts to resemble a banana. I dunno -- call it a hunch ;)

Thanks for the vote. We'll have to see how it goes. I do know from experience that it's usually a hell of a lot easier to make metal shorter rather than longer -- so, we got that going for us...

I have Shinko 705 on my klr. Great tire. Rear on the big thumper lasted 4k miles. Considering the stock only lasted 2k. Front is still going after 5k showing half wear. Good in rain. Great on the trails. And wheelies on the road. Good choice! And affordable

Here's the latest...

Got the seat back from the upholstery shop. Wasn't cheap since I had them shape the foam, but it turned out a little better than I expected. I was going for a kind of "mid 70's Volvo/Mercedes baby-poop tan". I think they nailed it...

It's obviously not done, but I got it ride-able so that I could dodge LA traffic for a bit. Gonna start working on it between rides, so progress might slow a bit.

Stuff I still have to work on:

- Reworking the controls. Not sure if I want to refinish the stock controls or just replace them.
- Touch-up paint on the sub-frame
- Get the tank painted
- Figure out what gauges I'm gonna go with (if any). Anybody used the 1.9" tachs from dime city?
- Maybe lower the front forks a bit
- Move/mount the battery under the seat

That is actually the color I was thinking. Kinda brown and purple all at the same time.
