Sacreligious? Need opinions

House Smells Like Gas.....
Picked this Buffalo project last month and am about to pull the motor to prep the frame. Really having no solid direction, I tossed an old tail off a KZ project on for shits and grins and I think it flows pretty good. Opinions? Don't mind the skinny rear, it's getting swapped soon.

needs to be dropped down at the rear just a bit but it could be a fantastic look....
suspension upgrades on an old bike like that are way more important than fat tires

Appreciate the input. I'm modifying the stock swing arm to accept a 130 tire, there's a 110 on it now. I'm on the hunt for a spoked wheel that's a bit wider than the one I have now. I heard Avon makes a low pro tire 130 for a skinny wheel so may go that route. Suspension will remain unchanged (geometry wise) with some Hagon shocks possibly. I want it to be semi period correct, at least visually. I added super bike bars, dropped the gauges 2 inches and rebuilt the forks/brakes. So much rust/corrosion. All pays off when that motor fires up :)

Otherwise go the stock route and add a chopped chrome rear fender.... Please don't mind the train wreck of a garage. If any of you saw my fuel tank dilemma on the tanks thread I think I have it nailed now. Brazed up the pin holes, Por-15 tank liner, Por-15'd the bottom with Por-15 Chassis Coat Black on the bottom, Rustoleum primered the top and laid some gunmetal plasti-dip on it. I figure if it ends up leaking I'm not ruining a sweet paint job.

i think either seat option
but you are going to upset the balance and handling of the bike with a 130 in the back
and it will look out of place

Oh, a 130 isn't too crazy. As long as you get a slightly bigger rim, right?

Yeah it's going to have to be, I need at least a 3" rim, stock is 2.15" I think. There's only a billion spoked rims on flea-bay, anyone have a suggestion for what may work? I realize I'll probably need a new axle/spacers and what not.

I have read on other forums people squeezing 130's on this size rim and them being too tall, but the Avon M26 Roadrider was designed for a rim this size?

The 110 on the rear handles really well but geez, it just looks goofy for a bike this size.

It looks like a fat chick wearing high heels....

MikesXS provided me with a good rim. I dunno if they'll have the spoke pattern you'll need, but they have great pricing and good servuce

I run a 130 BT45 on a 3" rim on mine and just finished and sold one with a 2.5" GS750 cast wheel and I put a 130-17 on that one. 130 will clear the swingarm but if you want anything wider the swingarm will have to be modified or replaced. I'd fit a GS1100 aluminum arm if I built another one.

AM26 have a bunch of 130 tires including one designed to fit a 2.75 rim, so that would be perfect with a 3.0" rim.

For seats, you could look at a flat tracker style from say Hotwingglass if you are thinking of that look.

Somewhere here I have a picture of a GT with a Z1 style tail and it looks pretty good. A chopped fender doesn't usually look very good with a stock seat because of the size and shape of that seat. It looks unfinished and doesn't flow well. Take your time to get that right - so few custom GTs look right at the back end.

That style of tank looks big and clumsy compared to the early tank IMHO but with fatter wheels or even modern forks and wheels it looks just right.

Boom! Teazer much appreciated again. I'm going to search out the 3" rim, and see if I can make the KZ tail work. I'll be the first to admit it if it looks dumb, and go another route. This bike is far from a show piece so I don't mind making a snip here or there, unlike the cx500 I restored which was solid to begin with. I plan on cutting out the pinch in the welds on the swingarm, and reinforcing it with .25" steel for more clearance. A swingarm swap may be in the distant future, I've read up on the GS swaps. Thanks again all.

Don't do that to the swingarm. All you need to do if you keep the GT arm is to grind a small amount out of the very rear 1" or so of the welded part and then weld it back up along the seam. It makes it lighter by a poofteenth too. 1/4" steel has no place on a motorcycle that I can think of.
