Not a bobber, not a chopper, how 'bout a bagger!

So I've been threatening to do this on here for awhile. I finally rounded up the cash, and ordered my parts over Christmas. This fall, I had been in to the HD dealer in Bozeman, MT, with which I am quite friendly, and I concepted hard bagging my Heritage Softail, but in a manner more in keeping with it's East LA look, and not in an old man touring sort of way. We came up with some stretched bags, that matched the 39" Cholo pipes I had installed, and a wide, stretched duckbill fender to match the bags. I got it all here earlier this week. The bags are a direct bolt on--there is an adapter kit for that. Here is a prelim of how the whole thing will set up:
As it was:
AS it will be:

The problem was the fender. This whole setup was actually intended for the Road King chassis, which is wider, and spaced front-to-back differently than the softail. You can see this in how the fender fits in this pic:

Now I am contouring the whole thing with some filler, and can get on with the paintwork. Not much so far, but its a start...

I am not a bagger kinda guy but that is VERY COOL!

Lots o paintwork this weekend! Managed to get paint on and some assembly as well. Still got some more to do, and have to get a skinnier seat, but it's starting to look the bidniss!

Why the narrower seat? Interferes with the lids?

Seriously Tyler, that transformed the bike. Great stuff.....

Can always use longer pipes...!

That's it, Rich. The seat covers the front edge and makes them hard to open.

Dam thats hot!
Nice ride!

I've been day dreaming of building one as well. Only from a late 70's Honda Goldwing. Lol

You're nuts. But on the bright side, if you ever get lost in West Texas or East LA it may buy you enough street cred to save your skinny white ass. Hahaha.

Love it man! And I thibk Brad may be right on with the pipe comment.

Hahahaha! It just might...and if not I'm sure I can fit a 'piece' in the bags now...!

The pipes are 39 inchers, they only go one size longer to 42's. The problem is functionality--because this thing is slammed like it is, I already drag the 39's. the 42's would push this thing to almost 9' long, and there really has to be an end to this somewhere!! I mean, at some point I have to get control of this project and say enough is enough haha!

Rad. Looks great man!

And look at that, a Michigan plate already ... so quick to abandon your Montana roots, huh? Hmmmmmmm... ;D

Hell ya man... Hell ya! i really dig the dragger stretch on the bags/fender... i wish you would have contacted me i am a dealer for pretty much every bag company out there and could toss you some great deals!...keep that in mind next time, whatever i get them for i will pass that on to you... paint work is balls man! perfectly spot on!!! really dig the whole look! hope now this summer we can get together and raise some hell... I have been building alot of club style dyna's lately... seems that the cali look has finally come to chicago... i am glad you took your own spin on the cholo look! Always one of my fav style bikes... really dig it man... fantastic work

Just about done. It's all wired and braced. I wanted to smooth up the paint, so I did a little sand and buff tonight. Not bad for garage paint, I guess:

"A little" sand and buff he says! That would take me days! Sure does look smooth though!

Well, I got lucky on this one and the paint went on really nice. It wasn't too bad to level out.
