Hollywoodmx's XV920 Tracker - Quick Build
« on: Apr 25, 2014, 02:57:39 »
I got my hands another 81 chain drive. Since I have 3 builds going I am planning to put this on the quick path. I will do the fork swap and modern wheels next winter this year I am focusing just getting the bike going quickly so I don't feel I am living in the garage during my free time. I am building some custom parts for this build but nothing too crazy to keep in on schedule.

So I got it not complete, not to worried about that as I have lot of left over parts including some good after market items that I decided not to use in the first 920. I have made progress prior to posting it.

Lots of pics coming.

First things first I needed a tank and a seat, I tried about 10 tanks and I couldn't get the right fit or look so I got a xv750 tank and a hot wings seat.

Now the 750 tank is an easy fit but has a slight cruiser flare which will need to be addressed. It also has a big dent. I tried all the tricks and none of them worked. I took it to 3 body shops and non of them wanted to pull it. I have a plan to fix it.

Kind of a waste doing the paint stripping after learning the joys of sand blasting. Only problem is I found new secrets under the paint of previous body filler which now I will have to redo.. :(

More disassembly it's like I have done this before! ;D

P.S. Removing the enclosed chain is a pita and messy affair getting rid of all  that lithium grease.

Some of these pics overlap in my other thread as the parts are mixed in some of these.

Time to rebuild the forks and install Progressive springs, i lowered them too. I have a progressive spring for the rear too but I got s triumph shock for this build too but today I botched drilling out the bushing and will have to make a new one, but later as currently there isn't time in the time in the schedule.

This is annoying and slightly funny. I have two sets of forks got distracted and ended up rebuilding to left forks! ;D

It's ok after learning the hard way I can do it pretty fast now. The polishing on the other hand.. takes some time.

So I got the tank streamlined... Much better, still needs a few changes but I needed to get everything mocked up first. It looks pretty good!
