Carb problems

Okay, let me first begin with that I know pods are absolute ass.

Now that that is said...

I picked up a 1976 Yamaha XS500 for next to nothing.
The PO put pods on because apparently mice got into the stock air box and ate it up.

That being said the thing idles perfect. But under a heavy throttle the right cylinder bogs and almost feels like it kicks on and off like one second I have no power and then it really kicks in on that side. Not to mention the carb back fires A TON but just on the right carb.

What are we dealing with?
Does the right cylinder just have low compression? Or if I throw the stock air box on should it be fine?
It's the fact that it's just the right carb back firing a ton and not the left that has me thrown.

first take a compression test and know the answer to that question if you can do a leak down test as well

check the coil plug cap and spark

then clean the carbs properly so both sides run the same then see where you are

If you have stock jetting and pod filters, then that is your problem. You are leaning out as you come off the pilots.
