Where to start on a project? Well teardown then ......... Well I have started to detab the frame and prep for powder. Has anyone used a XL350 swingarm on a 250 its one inch longer giving a longer wheel base.
This may be a long journey from the grave.
Oldnbroken yours is an insperation.
I picked up two others another 75 and a 73 the 75 has a free turning motor. I will detab the frame plan is a capacitor in place of a battery but I might steal your idea and placement. under the seat. Other than a junk engine no real suprises.
Took a bunch of EvapoRust to the tank and it came out pretty good then some paint stripper to the paint and now I have a surface to work with.
G'day Eric, I have heard that using the 350 swing-arm was common practice on the 250 back in the day so I assume it is easy swap but that is only a assumption. I know where there is a 350 frame and when I get around to dropping in there will measure it if you don't have one laying around to measure yourself.
SO time flies. What have I accomplished. Primed the tank, dissassembled the free spinning motor to find out the clutch and oil slinger had parts missing, the cylender looks good enough to hone. I need to find a piston after I have it measured. As you can see the cylender had quite a bit of dirt/corrosion on it I spent a day on it cleaning. I think a 350 transmission is in the future of this project I mean if I need to open it up anyhow to ensure it is clean why not. I have a few things painted up as well. More to come. Slow and steady wins the race.
