howdy all,
I picked up a 76 cb750 last feburary and road it through the spring and summer, with the winter months i have torn it down to the frame and plan on cleaning it up a bit, repainting, rewiring, new tires and slowly turning it into a cafe. It has 32k miles on the clock. I have been trying to put the tear down pictures into an album, no interwebs at home makes that tough. Here is a link to what I have uploaded so far: https://picasaweb.google.com/115156933845119227230/1976HondaCb750?authkey=Gv1sRgCNbX5pWCu66qvAE#
So far, I have gotten the bike stripped down to the frame. I have been working on polishing the engine covers as I plan to paint the engine an aluminm color. The forks have been taken apart and will be getting seals and gaiters replaced. I just started taking the engine apart, that is a slow process since I am very green at this. I have a spare gas tank that I am thinking about attempting to put knee dents into... The plan is to make my own cafe seat. I watched DDC's video how they make them and have been working on a mold.
This weeks plan is to get the back portion of the frame cut off so I can get the DCC loop weld on the back. That should be in tomorrow. Also, saw a few builds that put the oil tank in the seat cowl. Anyone have any suggestions on this? I like the look of having the V area open. I am working on getting a Harley fxr oil tank to use for this task. Well til then wish me luck and i love the DTT website...don't know why i didn't get on here sooner!
Thanks buddy. I really have no idea what im doing, but figuring it out as I go. Any one by chance know if the DCC frame loop is suppose to slip into the frame?
Im hoping to the bike back up and running before the riding season.
Took the plunge and cut off the back side of the frame. Got my DCC loop in the mail yesterday, just need to get my frame and loop off to a welder.
After that started working on the fins of the engine. The 10 pack of long brushes from Harbor Freight work really well for this. Hoping tonight to work on a little polishing.
I had good luck between the fins buy using a brass gun brush. They are available in any size you need individually, I think the one I used was for a .410... or you could buy an entire set dirt cheap from Wal-mart
So the rear hoop fit?
Put a finish date on the bike. Decided 2 June 2013 would be a great day to have this bad larry finished. Why, same day as Rocker and Mods in Chi town. Not sure if I will go, but it would be nice to just get it done! Been busy degreasing 30+ years of grease and shit of the engine...that is a bitch. Been using Purple power, simple green and elbow grease.. Any suggestions?
Get a grease zert installed in your elbow... that way you can refill when it gets low.
Can you tell me what specific handlebars you bought and where? My drag bars ain't cutting it with the tank on, so I am back to going with Clubmans. I know there are several sizes out there, some specifically say for larger bikes like a CB750 and yours look like a good fit with the "K" tank.
HD, can Parkview take care of the Zerk in the elbow? Lol
I got the bars at DCC, http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-racer-caferacer-bobber-brat-chopper-custom-motorcycle-handlebar-parts-chrome-clubman-handlebars-23-12538.html.
I ran a string and nut through the bars and it doesn't seem that they are open all the way through, so running wires all the way through may be an issue. i am going to try a coat hanger, just to see if maybe my string got snagged up.
Heh he.. Parkview...
Thanks for the linky, Herm at DCC has helpped me many times.
And I can tell you from past experiance... pulling the controls wireing through a set of clubmans SUCKS. I would rather notch the control and run the wire external like most bikes controls are next time.
Just been doing a bit of degreasing on random bits and pieces mquick question , can anyone direct me to a link or tell me how to break down the rear shocks. Thanks
It's been a hot minute since I updated. My bro got a PAMCO ignition for my bday. That will be a nice addition to the pile of parts I have. And one less to buy. Tried my hand a fiberglassing another seat. We shall see how that goes.
Question for all you guys that have been doing this for awhile. If I am wanting to put a reverse cone muffler on the bike can I just use any header pipe? Say the Mac 4-1 system or stock? Anyone got a how to or a link of some sort. Thanks in advance for the help most ill trying to learn!
Hey bigtex, with these bikes coming stock with individual 4 into 4 exhaust, fitting a reverse cone to the stock headpipes would be quite a bit of work, an aftermarket 4-2 or 4-1 would be much easier. Depending on if you want to fit a muffler on both sides or just one. Most aftermarket Muffs come in 1 3/4" inlet with adapter sleeves to fit about any size pipe a motorcycle may have.
Depending on your funds, you might want to save yourself and check out cycle-x exhausts. http://www.cyclexchange.net/Exhaust%20System%20Page.htm Seems picey at first but when you figure buying all the parts sepperate, header, muffler(s), clamps and hangers, plus the fitment... his Sidewinder with reverse cone isn't that out of line. A Buddy of mine in K-ville has one of these Vance and Hines Sidewinders on his SOHC 750 and it sounds GREAT! It has the V/H muffler but they now offer it in a set you may want
Thanks Hoosier. I think right now I am going to rock the original headers with no muffler. Just want to get this bad larry running. I haven't updated in a while due to work getting in the way. This past week I got the motor reassembled and painted, the rims cleaned up and painted, hubs cleaned and painted. Now just need to get a couple things welded on my frame so I can get that primed and painted and then start putting things back together! Here are some pictures:

slow but steady...The engine is 95% put back together...with me dragging along the rebuild process I have misplaced the oil pan bolts, So I will be reordering those...Then to get a couple welds done then paint the frame and in goes the engine. My June 1st deadline is probably going to be missed...The Architect over at the SOHC4 forums is building me an oil tank so that should look rad! Check his stuff out. BlipWorkshop, they are on instagram and FB. Well til next time.
