The little Ducati Featherweight

Ok no one said it looked bad so here it is. I have a few pin holes to chase, and a lot more sanding, but for my first exhaust I'm very happy with it.

Mid level pipe - most unusual and totally in keeping with the unique nature of this bike. Cool.

Just be ready for the guy that sees it and swears he had a bike just like that back in the day - that same bike...Fading memory is a wonderful thing.

Haha thanks guys. Ya know, I didn't do the exhaust that way to be different, it was just the only thing I could do that made sense.

Revised punch list.

Rear motor mount spacers
check all bolts
oil in engine
sand intake manifold
clamp muffler
Headlight bracket
O2 sensor
start and tune
send out header for ceramic coat (see, I won't burn my leg after all! Haha)

Oh, and since I'm not able to weld aluminum, I make a prototype intake manifold out of steel that works perfectly, what a pain in the ass! Can I pay anyone here to make me the same thing out of aluminum? I'll 2 day the one I made to you, I'm just in a bit of a rush to get it done and it needs to be pretty.

So the happened. Gimme opinions on the exhaust. I like it but im open to other options before more than tape is holding it there

Hi jag767,

The bike looks a beauty and that engine looks pornilicious.

My honest opinion, the engine head seems hidden under the tank what is in my opinion a shame because it is a really beautiful engine.
Try to lift the tank a little bite or find a tank that wont go down so much on the spine of the frame.

Thanks for the input, I guess that's what the end result is when I use what I have around. Perhaps one day it'll get a different tank, but the front end will likely get swapped first.

Doing some fine tuning on the intake manifold, then I see no reason we shouldn't be able to start. Still more to do before a ride around the block.

It lives!!! The bitch started right up like it was warm and had just been put away. I have to tighten everything, and a list more, but ill get a video up. Sounds angry!

After a long day, it's a running, rideable bike. It was dark by the time I finished, I will take a video tomorrow.

The good:

The motor runs outstanding! I haven't tuned it at all, but the whole step is just doing what it's supposed to. Bike feels light and narrow, hell I can pick it up to move it. Also there's no need to kick it over, a jaunt down the driveway in second and it's going already.

The bad:

Lots falls into this category at the moment. Shifting with your right foot, in a nutshell sucks! Oh and it's gp shift to boot! The exhaust, it's loud, like real loud. No one will have a problem knowing if I am within a mile. I need to change the amount of teeth on the sprockets. I knew it wasn't the right ratio with a 16 up front and 38 out back. To be proper for the motor it should have a 46 tooth rear.I will pick up a bunch of sprockets and play. On the gearing note, the 4 speed is very spread out, I see why they geared up the sprocket so high.

The ugly:

Well, I couldn't decide on a headlight, so my solution definitely is in this category. You'll all see in the video tomorrow.

Managed to get a real headlight on last night, just have to trim the bracket up a little. I have a few minor things to do, but been riding it a little. The gearing with only 4 speeds is so different, not to mention the while right foot thing. Also the sound of the single is misleading at to what rpm I am it. All in all a lot to get used to. Getting it on main roads, it moves a long a lot better than I thought, really likes to rev. Under 5k the motor is sluggish, but then it really wakes up. With the larger rear sprocket I think its going to be a ton of fun. I still need to do the 02 sensor to tune it, I think I'm a little rich, but she runs strong as hell.

Got a 43t rear sprocket, took off the wheel and in bone head fashion did not know the studs were press in. Ordered a set, and now I sit and twiddle my thumbs.

Down to the last few things. Painted the headlight bracket, as well as the bottom rear motor mount I made yesterday. All that's left is the rear sprocket, and the exhaust. Should be complete by weeks end.

Have you used a wideband on a carb'd bike before?

Interested in seeing how useful it will be. EFI is so adjustable there is utility.

Carbs and jets are such a compromise that the complexity seems overkill.

Are you using an A/F gauge or a cheap datalogger like Innovate's stuff. I've used Innovate's stuff in past.
