Re: Bridgestone M2/SS 200cc Motorcycle Restoration

Just went back to the start of the thread to remind myself what the bike looked like at the beginning.

An amazing transformation!

Re: Bridgestone M2/SS 200cc Motorcycle Restoration

Is that my bike? Pretty sure there is no way unless it was buried alive and Joe had some time to dig it up from its premature grave and give her some love!

ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING JOE! The seat should be the box for the cake as there is no way I can say the icing cause you took care of the whole cake! hahahaha Hopefully the seat will be in my hands in a couple weeks and I can send it quickly to you for final photos/testing.

Re: Bridgestone M2/SS 200cc Motorcycle Restoration

I apologize for the delayed response Brothers, I have been trying to put into words what this restoration truly means to me however it is difficult to write. As always all of your kind words and support for the work that has been done on this build is truly inspiring to not only me personaly but to everyone who has been involved with returning this bike to her former glory! After we completed the La Pastinaca engine build with Brother Habanero he mentioned the possibility of working togethor again with him and Brother Casi on this Bridgestone and I must admit I was very excited to hear that we may be working togethor again as they are truly some of the finest people I have ever had the opportunity to work with.

Most of you know how passionate I am about DWMS Racing being a family and that dream has been realized ever since the beginning and it is a true blessing that our family continues to grow through loyalty, friendship, respect, and support for one another on a daily basis.

As for this Bridgestone as much hard work as I have put into her personally that is only a very small part of the entire family effort that we have all put into her togethor.

Brother casi has a beautiful vision for what he wanted for this build and it has been a breath of fresh air to be able to work within that vision togethor to bring it into reality as most people that I work with want a flawless finish and I truly believe that leaving the factory casting marks, the factory welds, and just enough patina here and there on the bike has given the Bridgestone a truly classic look that is more beautiful to me than any flawless finish could ever be. I also love the natural cast and lightly hand polished finishes on the aluminum better than the mirror finish we put on a lot of parts of other bikes. Not only does Brother casi have the beautiful vision that he wanted for this motorcycle but he and Brother Habanero have also both worked very hard to locate and acquire the finest parts available for the build as well as having all of the chrome replated, the upholstery work on the seat done, etc.

I have also been very fortunate to have help from all of my immediate family as well, my Father is here at the shop a couple times a week and has done a lot of work on the bike, my Mom watches all of the photos and constantly compliments and encourages us all, my Brother Jason did an absolutely beautiful paint job on all of the tins, my beautiful wife has helped me with the Bridgestone and she truly understands my creative passion and supports everything that I do, and my youngest Daughter who is a beautiful angel helped sand and polish pieces for the bike and did a lot of the work on the front fender so I have truly been able to spend quality time working with all of them on this build.

Our online family of Brothers and Sisters here on DTT as well as on facebook and other outlets that we have through DWMS Racing have all provided kind words, compliments, and support which truly means more to me than most of you know and has continued to provide me with the needed inspiration to keep working hard to improve the quality of the work that we do. We are all very thankful to have you here and honored to be members here as you are all very talented builders and honestly good people.

I love that we have all had a part in returning this Bridgestone to her former glory and that everyone has enjoyed the restoration, she has brought us all closer togethor as a family and I will always be grateful to her and to all of you for that.

Your Friend and Brother, Joe

Re: Bridgestone M2/SS 200cc Motorcycle Restoration

@Joe,

This has truly been an eye opening experience for me as I am like many on this thread as I am traditional both in the way I live my life and the way I treat others. I have been wrenching on cars/motorcycles for almost 10 years now and have yet to find such a great pool of people to enjoy our build as a family. I have always said I was born in the wrong decade as although I am young I still have the heart and way of life of someone who was born in the 50's. As I have told Joe it is my honor to be able to not only share a motorcycle build together but build a relationship with someone miles and miles away! Our friendship runs deep and our family grows 2x thanks to the DWMS way of business and way of life. It's seems fitting to me that a vintage bike like this brings out the vintage spirit that brought this nation we live in to be what it is!

Without going into too much detail I would sum up my experience with Joe and his beautiful family as such: With one man's ability to sculpt beauty with steel and rubber he has been able to tie together one family with one passion and create a network of enthusiasts who not only share a passion for all things 2 wheels but more importantly a love for humankind. Without people in the world like Joe and his family at DWMS I would not be able to see the good that still resides in the world.

As always Joe, thank you for your passion, enthusiasm and most important, your friendship!

Re: Bridgestone M2/SS 200cc Motorcycle Restoration

Thank you all for the compliments and kind words Brothers!

We have been working on installing some the small things for the Bridgestone, I restored the oil tanks fittings and we installed a new oil line from the tank to the oil pump. The original clutch cable was in beautiful condition so I cleaned the outer casing of it and heat shrinked the top so it would match the front brake cable cosmetically, after cleaning the cable I installed it on the bike with a new top adjuster and adjusted the cable so we now have a nice working clutch! We had the airbox off of the bike to finish the final detail work on it and Brother casi located a beautiful new old stock air filter so we installed it in the air box and mounted the airbox, all four new rubber air intakes, and the chrome air tubes back on the bike and finished routing all of the choke and throttle cables. We also rebuilt the fuel petcock, mounted it, and ran new fuel lines.

I am still working on cleaning and rebuilding the carburetors however here are a couple photos of the engine.

Talk about some fancy work! The carbs, petcock, and new tubes look like some great stuff! Looking closer and closer to her new life...

Re: Bridgestone M2/SS 200cc Motorcycle Restoration

Joe, your restoration work is in a class of it's own.
The bikes will be better than the original factory finish and will no doubt be running better than the day it left the original shop that sold it.
The world needs guys and facilities like you and yours - there's plenty of room for this standard of artisan finish.
The rest of us can do the ordinary 'get the bike going' restoration work

Keep up the good work

Thank you for all of your kind words Brothers, as always they truly mean a lot to me and everyone who has helped return this bike back to her former glory!

I am working on the carburetor for the right side of the engine and should have it installed by this afternoon, after I get this carburetor on I just have to finish restoring the muffler for the right side and then we can let her breath a little!

Re: Bridgestone M2/SS 200cc Motorcycle Restoration

Getting close to starting day!

I'm nearly as excited as I would be if it were mine.

Brother Pete thank you so much for all of your support on this build, it truly means a lot to all of us! I really enjoy taking the photos and sharing them and I am not sure what could be better so we will try video!

She took her first new breath of life today! I am still finishing the restoration work on the chain guard and the muffler for the right side however we installed the muffler so that we could test run the engine and transmission for the first time!

Here is a video of her running! I did not have the memory card in my camera when we made this video so it is short however I will take some new longer videos this weekend and post them as well. We are running a heavy premix of oil for the first few minutes of break in so there is a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust.
