The Volkswagen Thread

Wow! That's some negative camber you had going on there! I remember when the tuner craze hit in my part of the country (early 90's) and I started seeing imports with crazy amounts of negative camber. Kits to correct it were not widely available then, so dudes drove around in tricked out cars with broke down looking suspensions. How long did your rubber last? :-D

the torsion beams on all VWs have a ton of toe in and camber , even my '01 looks like crap, but no ill tire wear.

Wow, I've been searching this forum for a few weeks now and just stumbled onto this thread. I can't believe how many Cafe people are also VW enthusiests.

I've been into VW's for more than 25 years and have owned quite a few to say the least. I've actually just got out of VW's this year to focus on Cafe's and old American Steel.

Here are a few.

This is my "sleeper" '61 turbo bug. I bought it in 2002 from a couple in Ca. and had it shipped across country. It has a 1641cc turbo engine. I upgraded it to a 1955cc and DAMN did it rip!!

Last year we repainted it. We stripped it down, sanded it, painted it, and re-assembled it in a weekend.

I'll post a few more of my old VW's later as I dig up the pics.

Just picked up a 2011 4 Dr. GTI Wolfsburg. This is the car I have wanted for 10+ yrs, but kept getting sidetracked.

Also have a 1998 Cabrio on the driveway that is currently for sale.

i dont have any vdubs anymore, but was raised on them.. grandparents drove bugs and rabbits for ever.. moms first car was a 66 beetle, owned a couple rabbits, and an old audi at one point.. i started with an 74 super with 67 fenders and cal look headlights and 8 spoke empi's, too bad i had to leave it in california.. drove an 86 golf 8v for a few months, then picked up an 84 gti with super low miles, and an 81 rabbit l with a fully built gti motor, shrick cam, old ass adjustable cam gear, euro intake, header, and god only knows what else, had a mint set of recaros inside, and full gti suspension with sway bars, handled insanely well.. it was a monster, would only do 90 at 8k but it would get there unbelievably fast, had the most absurd gearing ive ever seen.. still regret selling them..

one of these days i will find myself a squareback.. i absolutely love those things...

Do I get to play? My '62... was a DD until I decided to build a new motor for it. Hasn't been on the road in nearly a year. Bikes only since last January :)

My father owned an autoparts store, and we specialized in German / British cars. We always had a boat load of VWs around the shop because we could get em cheap. At one time I remember counting 15 VWs in the back. The following weekend a bunch of my friends in HS got drunk, and we took the torch and chop saw to 10 of them.

But I had a few memorable VWs from HS.
1972 VW square back was my DD
1963 23 window rag top bus with a 2100 in it, IRS rear suspension, and disc front.
1966 VW Vert, all original
1963 VW rag top bug, all original
1972 VW Thing, 1800, it would go any where and every where
1962 Renard Autodynamics Mk II Formula Vee, with a 1320 cheater motor.

Sorry I only have pics of the 181 and the Vee. My old 23 window I know is in Santa Cruz, I see it at Googuys shows once in a while.

Chiming in. Guilty of New Beetle owning. It's about to get an entirely new suspension, rims and tires for its 150k birthday. And....first weekend in May, it's "scouting" out The Dragon in North Carolina for a bike trip I have planned in July.

Ha this cracks me up. Just got my first CB and can't believe how many sciroccos I saw on this thread. Similar tastes you say? I've had Black Beauty for around 8 years but she's leaving tuesday for a trip to Toronto to her new home. I may sleep in the garage with her monday night.

I have been looking for a low priced running Caddy for years. I swear everytime I find one, something else comes up and prevents me from buying it.

One day I will have one, one day.
