Koni 76F aluminum body Honda clevis shocks - CB400 spec?

Chuck78

Been Around the Block
I have a set of aluminum body Koni 76F Honda clevis mount shocks for sale. The markings on the spring referenced off of a Koni chart that I have tells me they were spec for a Honda CB400-Four. The springs are fairly firm according to the chart so I figured they'd work well for a very sporty 400-Four or even heavier bikes. 120lb springs if I recall correctly and am reading the color dot correctly (dark red spring code).
Aluminum bodies, red painted springs, dark red paint dot spring rate code.

Finding the aluminum body versions of these is a rare find and much sexier than the cheaper / heavier steel versions.

***these will need rebuilt - as will ALL old Koni shocks that have not been updated. The top out bumpers internal to the shocks will dissolve over time and gum up the damping assemblies. The damping is fouled up on them due to this very common problem with ALL old Koni's.

Rebuild parts are available from "The Koni King" Robert Haag rhaagusa@gmail.com I believe is his contact. I have spoken with him before on these.

There are a few slight blemishes on the shafts chrome but they are barely even discernable in photos, & Robert & our suspension guru buddy Kenny both told me not to bother with getting new shafts, & just to run them as is.

I'll take photos soon if anyone has any interest in these. Trying to clear out some no longer needed spares to make way in the budget for some hot rod Suzuki GS stuff and a vintage 1977 Suzuki PE250 Pure Enduro resto-mod build and some Fox Factory Shox & Racetech fork upgrades for that.

Thanks!

Chuck

******UPDATE - Pending rebuild and following pending sale to Rod Tattoo...

Do you have a link for 'the Koni King'?
Ikon don't have any parts for the alloy bodies but I did find specs for seals a few years ago.

Approximately 335mm or just under 13.25". The topout bumpers are deteriorated (damping orifices plugged up from the bumpers turning to gum) so I would say they may be a hair shorter more like 13.125" with proper modern ikon top out bumpers or whatever Robert Haag sells

The only real concerning spot on the shafts was right at the edge of the bottom out bumpers. The rest appears to be visible microscopic wear on the chrome as best as I can tell. I have a bunch of shaft photos to text or email interested parties.

apologies for the late reply, I am not getting any email alerts on my phone for some reason.

rhaagusa@gmail.com I believe is the correct contact for Robert the Koni King previously known as Konimon.
Same ID on ebay.

See Koni literature. These springs have one dark red color code dot, indicating spring p/n 215-20, measure 214mm length 7mm wire diameter (a hair thicker for paint), & 38.5mm i.d. which confirms the 215-20 spec.
112lbs/in springs for 2-up CB250/350/360 or solo riding CB350/450/500-Four etc.

I believe I've read that these have adjustable damping but you need to remove the top of the shock from the bike and twist the shaft to get the 4 positions of damping adjustment. You would want to confirm that with a Koni expert however. The guys at Ikon every time I see them at events tell me that they do sell parts that fit these older Konis, but have not specified steel or aluminum, and I know some of the parts definitely do not fit, but Robert Haag has the stuff that you need for these.
