76' CB750 Rearset Snag

76' CB750
Hi All,

I have attached three photos below. The guys I bought this bike from installed a custom rearset bracket that was kind of janky and clunky. The other day the right peg was shorn off when someone hit it parking too close to me.

I took off the existing bracket and intended to replace it with this (http://cognitomoto.com/collections/rearsets/products/cb750f-rearset-brackets-gsxr-master-cylinder-conversion), but I ran into an issue mounting the right bracket as it hits the frame where I am pointing.

In your opinion, whats the move? I like the bracket and it will work with the master cylinder, just doesn't fit the frame as it is. Grind that piece off?

That piece is the original mounting spot for the rear brake pedal. If you aren't going to use it anymore, then realistically you won't need it there. No structural issues with removing it, other than the fact that you will not be able to replace the rear brake back to stock ever again :)

I'm surprised that would interfere with the new brackets - have you actually test fit?

From the angle it looks like it sticks out 1/4" or so from the "flat rail" that's welded to the frame that he's using as the mounting point. If the rearset design is like the first couple of pictures (or if that IS it) then it would need that milled so it's on the same plane as the flat bar I think.

I am using cognito moto rearset brackets (http://cognitomoto.com/products/cb750f-rearset-brackets-gsxr-master-cylinder-conversion)

Yes, Tim, I test fit. It will need to come off in order to mounth to the frame bolts the brackets are drilled for.

That silver bracket rearset combo is what the last guy who I bought the bike from worked up.

That's very annoying, they don't even post a picture of the right side with the brake setup....or did I miss something on the cognito moto page?

No, they don't. I had to go out on a limb. Reached out to them asking which bracket would work best and they said this would fit. I guess they weren't taking into consideration this piece.

Well, as I said before, you have changed to a different master cylinder/brake setup and that part of the frame is no longer needed unless you wanted to return the bike back to stock brake arm. You are good to go if you want/need to cut it off :)

It may be that the intention is to space the bracket out from the frame, if the bolts used to mount the brackets are long enough to allow the extra 1/4 inch or so.

I'm sure Cognito would be responsive to questions - they're sponsors of DO THE TON. You don't mention if you've contacted them for clarification.

You can shoot member SpeedBump (http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=17573) a PM or contact them through their site.

it states in the ad that they may require spacers or grinding
it wouldn't hurt to try them out with spacers or a couple heavy an washers

Spacers would be my choice if it was my bike. I like to be able to put things back to stock :) Good call Tim (and xb)
