Mystery Bushing/Washer from Right Crankcase (CB360)

Been Around the Block
I was changing my oil over the weekend (first time I have ever done it), and when I pulled the right crankcase cover off there was a bushing/washer that fell into the cover. I have searched all over the web trying to identify where it goes, but have had no luck. Any ideas?

I took the kick-start arm, foot peg, and right exhaust off before removing the cover. All of their parts are accounted for. The only work I did when changing the oil was pulling out the screen assembly and the oil filter cap. No other parts were touched. Here is an image of the mystery part in the cover (for scale) and the oil pump idle gear. I apologize - I can't get the picture to rotate. I thought it might have come from the idle gear, but the case won't fit back on with it located there...plus it seems to already have the washer on the idle shaft.

I also noticed that crack in the case...do I need to be concerned about it? It is a small dent from the outside...and doesn't seem to have broken through (as far as my flashlight could tell).

I saw a post similar to mine on Honda Twins - but there weren't any answers, just guesses. I looked through the manual, and I can't see where it might have come from. I have also gone through a few different sites looking at part for anything on that side of the engine...I am coming up with nothing.

I hope that I can figure this out soon, because this is going to seriously hold up any work I had planned to do over the Thanksgiving break.

Yes, you got it. The washer fits on the gear shaft as you've shown it. The reason your cover isnt fitting is because the gear isnt seated properly. Dont force the cover or you will crack the gear.

Thanks for the response. I will see if I can get it back on there tonight, and finish up this stinking oil change.

Trek knows about 360's ;)
Make sure the anti rotation pin on the oil pump idler gear shaft is correctly located in crankcase or you will break something
