Title: Let's see your pickup trucks
Post by: t71ford on Sep 16, 2010, 00:32:18
We all use 'em and love 'em. Here is mine:

F-250 SuperDuty. I took this working at a ranch in souther Wy. No real mods, 'cause its more reliable that way, gets better mileage, and I don't really have time for that too. I hauls a good load, and doesn't usually get stuck.

Let's see yours!

Still my all-time favorite truck I've owned, so much fun:

5.9L 360 V8 with no weight in the back... went through some tires.

You can see my pop's Dakota in the back, and yes my mom's grand caravan...

Fiberglass fenders all around, 9 inch wider in the front long travel suspension, 35 inch BFG KM2 tires on 18 inch rockstars, deaver and eibach racing springs, Fox racing shox, and 5 HID offroad lights.  Another money pit but at least it's tax deductable

My truck,   `94 F150 extended cab with 8'bed.   My work truck.

In this picture we are cutting up some school buses to scrap.    I would load the trailer with a ton at a time and the truck would pull it with no problem.

I'm not one for the brand war,   in my eyes a truck is a truck, car is a car and a bike is a bike.   If you can afford it buy it, if you cant then buy something else.

Just because I know how some people are !!!!! not particularly on this forum but in general.  My truck gets 33mph on the highway and around 25 in town (635hp and 976tq at the rear wheels) 151,000 miles. I also have a lowered Nissan hardbody that is a daily driver, just no pics.

I traded my '61 turbo bug for this earlier this year.

Here is my '52 Ford F1. It is now sporting a 351w high output engine, manual trans and 9" rear end. Plans call for replacing the ugly ass wheels for stock steel wheels, wide whitewall tires and lowereing it 3". Eventually it will also get a repaint. I'm leaning towards Gloss black with semi-gloss racing stripes.

Our old dog "Lugnut" loved it.

Generic Isuzu/GM double cab 2WD 2.5 diesel.
Badged as vauxhall brava, Chevy luv, holden, opel etc.
Bloody brilliant. Isuzu tractor engine based.
Abused to beyond, goes where it is told, carries what ever it is over loaded with. Never let me down.
Would I have another after this one?
I haven't broke this one yet!
Some where out there is a Isuzu Denver with my name on.
However in my dreams there is a really beaten up sky blue F250 bench seat column change V8 muther waiting for me!

Not sure if you had Citroen CX and Estates in the US ?

I ran the estates for many years as they were the biggest all round estate you could get in the UK. Eventually when the need came to replace - generally through getting cosmetically ratty - the obvious answer was to get a newer version !

That left the dilema of what to do with the old one that still had 1000's of miles left in it? So - I used to chop them down into Pick Ups. 120mph + in pure comfort and the ability to drop the suspension down to the ground for loading. They'd take 2 bikes in the bed no problem.

This was the Mk2 version - "Le Peek Erp", made 4 in all - one is STILL going after 20 years from the conversion!
For some reason the image is not loading - I'll try later

Ahhha - think it's worked. This used to be a 7 seater Estate car. 2ltr Turbo Petrol - very quick and takes 2 bikes.

Title: Re: Let's see your pickup trucks
Post by: Vince Lupo on Jan 14, 2011, 03:21:57
It's 1/32 scale -- I'm a bit of a collector of old slot cars, and this is one of them.  This one came as part of a 1960's Eldon set that also included a 1965 Dodge Coronet, and a pair of Ferrari bodies, a jump ramp, and a two-wheeled ramp with a 'stunt clown'.  I like the old ones because they offer a bit more of a challenge than the new ones with those grippy magnets on the bottom.

Hmm....maybe we should make this a whole separate thread!

Every time I go home for a week or two I remeber why I left.

The reason I ask about the truck is I worked at a place in Brandon 5 years ago where a guy re painted a truck just like that and the quality of his work would reveal about that kind of rust by now.

Its a small world, I drove my 87 VW Fox from Brandon to Barrie, after a few weeks I got brave and went to Toronto. I was in North York where I was smucked by a little chinese woman. VW Fox's being what they are, it takes a scratch in the bumper to write one off. About a year later I was browsing the VW Vortex where a guy had found MY old Fox at a wrecker in Barrie and taken the bits and pieces off that I had put on (Fog lights, Wolfsburg badge, switches and gizmoes like that).

Here's a pic of my workhorse, poor thing had a screwdriver fly through the window (quite by accident). Got angry started to shake my fist about something, screwdriver slips out during one of the pumps and then bam! But i love the poor beastly, she super reliable and has never ditched me (knock on wood). She has a 300 Inline 6 backed by the electronic overdrive 4speed. Pulls like no ones business but doesn't go anywhere fast.

I had an 82 Ford Granada (Looks like a little two door LTD built on a Fox body) with the straight 6, bullet proof engine except it liked to diesel... Some times if I turned it off in gear, it would shut off, other times I had to stick it in reverse and try again and again and again...

lol, sounds like you had infamous leak through on the single barrel. The 80's models "small block" inline sixes were notorious for it. The big sixes not so much, luckily mine has fuel injection.

I don't even try! I just tow it to the ramp and launch it for the season. Its not a big fan of trying to stop everything. Beleive it or not everything is within the weight range for of trucks tow package. The truck is rated at 8800lb max and the boat and trailer weigh 8100. I have to use 4 wheel low to get up the ramp when hauling out, and say I know I can, I know I can.

Brand new "buggy" on the right broke down, had to be saved by the old buggy on left.  It simply shut off while I was cruising through town.  If it had done that on the highway, without power anything, I know I would have wrecked bad.  Diesel particulate filter gave us hell all summer.  Love new technology ::)

This is the day I picked up my truck. Rode my bike 300 miles deep into the heart of Alabama to claim this beauty, tossed it up in the back, and drove it home. Its a 1992 GMC Sierra 1500 Longbed with the 5spd and 4.3L engine, 140,000 miles to date and many more to go. It has been the best truck I have ever owned, I dig the modest lift, deep throaty exhaust tone, decent mileage, and above all unflinching reliability.

This truck is used primarily for my side job of restoring classic Japanese motorcycles. It has probably transported over 50 bikes since I've had it, with the tailgate scars to prove it.

its odd cause its fairly big but doesnt look it... very factory tough.. without being overly big that people know i only have 3" between my theighs.
have 10 1/2" at the rear diff and 21" from the ground to the bottom of the cab

Made a few changes to the Stepside since I first posted it. Wheel change, blacked out the grill, rebuilt the wood bed floor, added C5 Corvette seats, and most recently (i just got it back Monday)... fresh paint.

The paint job was financed by State Farm when one of their clients backed up into the driver side front fender. They gave me about 2/3 of what it cost me to have that dent, and two other dents fixed, and the whole truck sprayed again. It's the same color ('04 Corvette Gray Metallic), but I changed the stripe up a little. Went with a "bumble bee stripe" variation this time.

The culprit...

Thanks, it's something I slowly keep adding to between one project to another, the monitor in dash is actually my old netbook ripped into pieces, and then molded into the dash, giving me a full on in dash computer for mobile web, audio/video, navigation and the ability for real time engine diagnostics.. but is kind of pointless in the slowest 4 banger in existence lol.

I'll play... here's my new truck '97 Dodge Dakota with the 318 V-8 nothin special but runs AWESOME with 120K miles. Borla exhaust, Rancho shocks, B&M trans cooler. The best part is it's from Texas, no rust ever! She's as clean and shiney underneath as it is on top. Even the frame rails are still black.  ;D

I put a toyota 4wd drivetrain (solid front axle) Painted it. It has a turbocharged 2.4L in it. It is a completely different truck. I', running 7psi non intercooled with meth injection 93 oct.

Cool truck! Almost sounds like a diesel with that turbo

New guy here, and since the bike is nowhere near picture worthy yet here's a couple shots of my truck. It's a 1969 F250 crewcab 4x4. One of 641 built for 1969.

Nice truck man! Hows that I6 pull that big truck?
Thanks! it pulls her around just fine. It doesn't have the top end that the 8 had, but it's got some serious torque. The other day I had 2200#'s of retaining wall brick in the back and it was like their wasn't even anything back there. Between me, the truck, and the stone it was moving 8000 lbs around.

It's not stock, though. It's got 9.0:1 compression, a crane 901 cam (advanced 5* by a Cloyes adjustable timing set), a light port and polish, Clfford 4v intake, 500 Edelbrock, split manifolds, and a copper .021" head gasket that puts my quench right at .040" so I can run a lot of timing with no spark knock. I'm pretty sure if the motor were stock it would be a serious slug. ;D

I love that inline 6, probably the sturdiest and most dependable engine ford ever made. Only two things will kill them in a normal situation no oil and no water. I love those dang engines.

*EDIT*
By the way is that the clifford 4 barrel intaked manifold and fuel injected exhaust manifolds. Do you know what kind of power your making?

I had an inline 6 in my old 82 Granada. Bullet proof but half the time you had to turn the key off in gear or even reverse for it to stop. It liked to diesel.

Wow man, you don't see a lot of guys modding the ol' 300! I had a couple 69-72's also, with both the 360 and the 300 (even an old 223 I6), and I honestly couldn't tell which I liked better. The inliner was a bit less fooling around to keep running, I think. And as you say, gobs of torque. I overheated mine in the mountains one time--the thermostat broke and jammed closed. I took it out on the side of the road and refilled the engine with water from the creek. It got me home, and with never any ill effects.

Man its good to see old Ford iron running around. Sweet crew cab, too!

Man, thanks for all the positive comments guys! I thought ya'll could apprieciate her. I love that truck; I think they'll have to bury me in it. ;D

Haplo, that is indeed a clifford intake and efi manifolds.
My guess on power is probably 225 hp and 400 lb ft of torque. Slghtly less hp than my 360 had, but alot more torque.

Love me an inline with their Cylinders arranged the way God intended.
Not too many hop up the old 300 six anymore, 'twas more common back in the olden days with the GMC lumps.

lol, yeah those guys are more into discussing the technical bit of the engine than giving up any trade secrets. The only truly helpful one i found on that forum was frenchtownflyer. I was actually really jealous of something he had which was one of 4 prototypes crossflow heads made by ford and he only was able to get it because he used to be an engineer for ford.

Repairing. The plan was remove my floor pans, replace 727 with 833OD and replace rocker while I was at it. I kept finding rust... I bought the tranny 6? years ago and have been collecting parts since and have finally have had the space, time and lack of need of the truck to be able to do it.

The bell housing is made for ether a big or small block and the flywheel works both ways too. If I get my 86 4x4 up and going my Dad will probibaly give me his 440 and I can have the time for that one.

Removing 727,

New clutch,

I put the bell housing on first then the transmission without the shifter.

Then this before I started the rocker.

Not exactly a pickup but here is my daily. Nissan Navara (frontier) with a 3.2L 4cyl Turbo Diesel that runs 18psi. It started as a N/A with a small exhaust and now it it has a custom Garret T25 with a 3inch straight through exhaust from the dump. Nothing to hold up the flow. She has full underbody plates and 31x11.5 muddies. At 2.5tonne it isn't the quickest but still has enough guts to be a lot of fun. Here is how she sits now and a video of a bit of fun in a mud pan.

Bone stock 302w straight out of 1980, C4 tranny, 3.73 Dana 60.  Rear end actually just got put on and now it's leaking oil all over the damned place.  Ain't that the way it goes? Just put in a high torque mini starter yesterday.

Lowering the front end 3" this weekend with a drop axle, putting on new springs, and converting front brakes to disc.  After all that, I'll focus on the motor, which I'm sure is gonna cost a pretty penny.  Anybody wanna buy a Sportster?!  :o

Yeah I guess it isn't exactly a "pickup" huh?  Haha, either way, she hauls my toys.

Went to pick up a couple yards of soil and had an ole boy ask me "Now why you wanna go and do somethin' like the to such a nice old truck?"  Answer was simple:  because I can  ;D

Lowrider to be, 85 C10 with under 100K miles on it. No rust holes, no real dents. Needs paint and a window switch or window motor, has power everything and air conditioning.

Just one of the 5 pickups on the farm. But this one is street legal. And not only runs, but is tagged and insured.

So i finally got tired of putting the money and effort into old bmw cause it was basically costing me a car payment every other month. So bit the bullet and traded it in for my first new vehicle (literally 15miles on it) a 2013 Tacoma. I missed having a truck (My green 93 F150 which i gave my dad aka the green mile as i dubbed it).

Guess I'll throw my hunk of shit in here...

2000 Silverado 4x4, lowered, cammed 6.0, Yank converter, built trans, and lots of other stuff.  Best quarter mile time is a 13.12 at a little over 100 mph, and I can still haul mulch and tow cars with it.

Nope. :) That seat is tiny but it works. I had the truck loaded down one night with four buddies and hit a rail crossing at 65 mph and watched the guy in the back bounce up and bang his head on the ceiling haha. I was the only one laughing hehe :)

2004 Ford F150 STX. 4.6 liter V8. Added tinted windows, performance air filter, Flowmaster dual exhaust, and a side mount UWS slider toolbox.

Totaled in December. T-boned by a woman speeding through the fog with her blinker on.

Insurance was real nice. I had a fat down payment and was set on buying a replacement Supercab F150 until I took a TRD Sport Tacoma Prerunner for a spin. The bed is small but I like everything else about it. If I could change anything, I would've opted for the long bed model. This is waht they had on the lot. The price was right and it had low miles ('13 model, 6700 miles). I've already added nerf bars, a Volant cold air intake + scoop, Magnaflow exhaust. Next up is a 2.5" Bilstein lift kit and some new wheels & tires. It's a great truck with decent scat and not really "little" my any measure.

2004 Chevy Silverado w/ clamshell doors and V-6.

(I hate the clamshell doors)

I have hauled 9 bikes at once with it; I built a 6-bike trailer from an old boat trailer, and put 3 more in the pickup.

Lately just tow my 6x12 box trailer set up with tie-downs for 4 bikes and space for some gear, I put the stuff that needs to stay dry in there and everything else in the back of the truck. I can haul everything for a 10-day back-to-back race weekends trip with 4 bikes, pit gear, starter rollers, camping gear, food, table & chairs, tool box, fans, heaters, camp stove, the works.

Lousy gas milage when hauling, like 10-11 MPG.

No turning on a dime here...fifty cent piece is a stretch sometimes. Fortunately we have a big driveway that I can pull into (instead of backing) and have just enough room to turn around with the trailer and tuck it into it's spot.

I had leased a 2012 F-150 until last june, when I was getting close to ending the term I scooped up a '72 F-250 camper special for a project truck. Decided cost of a lease with the poor gas mileage and high insurance cost wasn't conducive to my bank account. So I scoured CL for an old F-series and found a runner/driver for $2k delivered and it was originally a texas truck. Stripped the 390 and C6 auto trans and sold off, took profit and got a '98 mustang GT 4.6 V8 with a 5spd manual trans, with the ECU and wiring harness. Grabbed a crown Victoria rack and pinion complete front suspension and limited slip rear end from a junkyard, and transplanted it all into the '72 pickup. I did a lot of other things along the way, but left the patina on the body. here's how she sits.

I love this truck.  I had a lifted 79 F150 (only one of three Fords I ever owned, the other two being a Galaxie 500 and my wife's Taurus) with 44s and a hell of a disposition.  It was also a 460 4 speed.  Had to bend the fuck out of the shifter to manage the lift and you had to push it into 1st to keep from slamming your knuckles into the dash.  I would love to own that truck.

Thanks, I love it too. Just replaced a power steering hose about twenty minutes ago. The engine actually came out of a 79 :)
and the shifter used to be about 4 inches from the ceiling. In fourth gear you could just rest your elbow on the bench seat back rest. I had to cut it down for city driving, my right hand is still visible above the dash most of the time.

I bought it from my friend Zach who has had more crew cab fords than anyone I know, most of them 460's. The one that started it all was built like a truck that you might see on the cover of Four Wheeler back in 1986. Triple shocks up front, 12" of lift, 39.5 x 19.5 Mickey Thomson Bajas, etc.

One drunken night in the trailer park about 13 years ago a kid with a 2001 Dodge 2500 Cummins decided to let his mouth write a check his truck couldn't cash, and before he knew it his 'lightweight' little dodge diesel extended cab was being pulled in circles on pavement, backwards. For a long time. He was actually crying when he got out of the truck.

Nice truck Dohc...I would definitely prefer the crew over my extended. Even with the seats forward it's tough for an adult to get back there and the bench seat back there is worthless...I use the space for tools, lunch box and other crap.

Had a 2000 Chevy crew 4x4 but the 350 was way to small for hauling and going up into the mountains. When GM got bailed out I ditched it and switched to Fords...bought the F250 and a E150.

F250 needs paint and have narrowed it down to silver or white, now I can refer to yours as the white example.

I've got my eyes on the 2015 F150 - was thinking about trading my Golf in against it now that we're a 2 car family again (wife has a Fiat).  But, I 'need' a truck perhaps 2-3 times a year, and for the difference in fuel costs, I can rent one when I need it.  Not to mention parking a full size truck in Toronto is challenging.

But I do like them.  I had a 1978 F150 (reg cab, long box - wish I still had it) and an extended cab short box 1986 F150, both back in the mid 90's when I lived out in the country and had to haul my own trash to the dump etc.

Now, I need a 4x4 in the spring to get up the road to the cottage and would like the extra cargo.  For bikes, honestly, I'm getting too old to manhandle them into the bed of a truck anyhow so a nice trailer will fill the void and be hauled by the Golf.

That'll be excellent for hauling your bikes to the track.

My Tundra is a'07 as well.  Great truck; it did an excellent job dragging my 7,000lb (more or less) travel trailer the 1000+ miles from Ohio down here to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.  It's got lots and lots of power, is comfortable, and rides good.  About the only thing I'd change is make the gas tank at least 10 gal bigger.

Here's a pic after fishing today. Covered in mud. I do have to say, I was very lucky. This truck was built by this guy for his Nephew, who decided he didn't want an "old" truck. The body panels, all brake lines are new. The engine and trans were rebuilt. About the only thing it needs is a seat cover. I went there on a Sunday with $4,003.62 on me and he took it. He had $1,900 in the trans alone. Two new gas tanks, new wheels and tires. I paid less than he had in the Engine and trans. Nothing special, 178 h.p. 350 v8. She's a great truck and looks good clean, which is hard this time of year driving through the mud to get to my fishin holes. She's not big, she's not badass, but she's dependable and haul's my bikes just fine, and some how never gets stuck in the mud. I went yesterday to a hole and there was 4-5 4X's, all the guys asked if I needed a tow out. I smirked and said, she's never stuck me yet.....

My new toy. 85 Dodge 4x4. Just an old farm truck that the family took pretty good care of. Very decent original interior. The window motors are tired, but she runs and shifts like new. The con, it's only a 318, but if I ever win the lotto it'll get a 12 valve. I felt sorry for the GMC always waste high in the mud, so I'm giving it to my kid and use this ol' girl for the fishin holes. I decided to teach my wife to off road, and took her to a spot out in the boonies (Cutter Dam) and she had a blast and was blown away by the sites at Cutter. We had to head back after getting caught in a thunder storm with zero visibility. She never even hiccupped, went through the slosh and mud without issue. Definitely would like more h.p. but for now, it'll be just fine...

Plenty to work with there, Bill.  It's still an LA.  In 85, they went to roller lifters.  For a few hundred bucks in a cam, you can make it a torque monster.  Does it still have the stock 2bbl?  Cop cars had the Thermo-quad or Quadrajets on their 318s.

Looks to be a 2 barrel Holley. Originally it was bought by a guy who then sold it to his brother and then passed to a son in law. The truck didn't run very well, but it wasn't making any noises, so I brought it home.

A base gasket (the carb was loose on the manifold) and a new air cleaner and she ran just fine. I haven't been able to check the plugs or vacuum lines yet. I might be able to find another 20 h.p. if I got her tuned properly. I think these things were only rated at about 180 h.p. and she definitely isn't a rocket, but climbs through the muck without hesitation.

I've been told to hide the hood ornament, before it ends up around some thugs neck... I think my next purchase is a seat cover to protect the prestine baby blue cloth seats. The second owner moved the high beam button to the dash and has rear brake light kill switch (can you say deer poacher...).

I was looking to get a new truck, but the prices are insane (more than my house in some cases) and I don't know why, but I get a smile every time I look at this beast. She needs a few pieces but nothing major and think this is a really good fit for me as a daily driver.  The $ was less than the tax on a new truck and $180 for two years of tags. I'll just put that extra cash in my retirement account and laugh all the way down these country roads...

Had to give up on the MM and D50...and broke down and bought a new to me truck.

Just ran out of nails to bite on the way to work and home again.

2015 Toyota Tacoma.....but.......a month into owning it, was heading to Jacksonville, just getting onto I16 south of Stateboro, the first picture shows what happened......................blowout.....................lucky was not going fast.

Daughter, God bless her soul, said "dad, don't plug that hole, put all new ones on".

So, Now I'm riding with 4 new BFGs.

And I do like that truck up there too Tune.
