Crush Sleeve Question

So I just recently replaced the bearings in my front and rear hubs. For some reason after installing them, the crush sleeve doesn't touch either inner bearing race. I know I didn't mix them up, so I am a little confused. Is this normal? When I install the wheels and torque down will the sleeve then "crush?" Or do I just need to make new ones? If so, can they be aluminum rather than steel?

Sounds like you haven't seated the bearings fully. The inner sleeve needs to touch the inner races or else tightening the axle will damage the bearing.
