Tire size- CB500

Hi all- please excuse my lack of knowledge regarding this topic.

I've purchased a '72 CB500F, all original. I'm looking to upgrade the tire width. What is common practice here? i.e. put wider tires on the current rims, or do I purchase new rims at the same diameter but wider?

Also, will I have to alter the front forks at all? If people usually replace the forks on these bikes, which is a popular set of forks to use as a replacement?

The tires in that pic are entirely too wide for those wheels.

What's your end game? Why do you want wider tires?
