Well, this aint good looking.
Re: The Black Knight, A 1975 400-four
Just some O-rings, can’t those be replaced by some generic ones of the same approximate size? Or are they some special material?

Probably me being too particular, as usual. :
Honda O-rings are probably Buna-N.
I prefer to stay away from Buna-N, only good up to 200-250 degrees.
I ordered a couple packs/sizes Viton Flouroelastomer super resilient, 400 degrees, from McMaster-Carr (thanks IRK
)
they are a "close" fit for the Bastard sized, 16.5x2mm Honda discontinued Oil Pickup O-ring. Of course.
I will just have to fit the best one, (and pray it dont suck air).
They run $5-$10 a pack. And that will add up fast to replace them all.

Anyways, while I patiently wait for Honda dealer parts dept to pull off another miracle.
I got plenty to do.
Ready for some new seals, O-rings, gaskets, clean up threads, re-torque head, adjust valves, static timing
And I got all three engine bolt kits to install.

Read a couple horror stories about 400-fours old starter O-rings breaking and dumping oil everywhere...
Fresh.
And this is going to speed up the plan of re-building the spare engine.
This morning I pulled the kickstarter out for inspection and found the support cracked.
I then checked the spare engine and found its good.
Rather than mess around swapping cases I will start the rebuild on the spare asap this spring.
Then, If I cant find a suitable replacement, send this one to Hurco for repairs next winter.
Ill bump start the thing before I kick it anyways. As my old knees cant take kickstarting anything more than Piglet anyways.

Re: The Black Knight, Do it right or dont do it.
OK the thought of HALF ASSING a project (even temporarily) drove me nuts all day...
So now this matched pair is on its way.
"Do it KINDA right or Dont do it at all". Only if I have too.
Ill pull the engine back out of the frame tomorrow and prep for the swap.
