You have a bike that costs pennies for parts and just about define bullet proof.
Find out what it can and can't do. Put whatever you want on it until you find what you like. Pod, velocity stack, a length-tuned intake tract, leaf-blower supercharger, Ninja front end, cut valve seats and lower the deck, try to modify an existing electronic ignition or pull the magneto off of a mower and throw it on, make it a mono shock rear, change sprockets and see what it takes to break a chain, make a fiberglass seat, fit an XR tank, increase clearance and travel, find out what components from other bikes will or won't fit, this series of motor spans two decades, make an electric-start AT engine fit...
What you have is a cheap expendable toy. If you want to learn about bikes, there's your subject. If it blows up, how much damage do you really think could be done? Sounds like a lesson learned if nothing else.
These bikes show up DAILY on CL for $100-200 complete. Just this year I bought a non-runner in that range.
