82 XV920 J Fork Cap Bolt Installation

I want to add progressive shocks to my bike. I have unscrewed Fork Cap Bolt to examine what i am working with. While reading both manuals haynes and clymers, they both suggest a special tool is required to screw the bolt back to the fork. Can someone that has done this give some advice

Disassembly

Note: The forks used on XV920J models, as well as on all 1984
and later models except the TRI, require a press, special tools ana
procedures for disassembly, including heating the outer fork tube with
a torch. Fork overhaul on these models should be done by a Yamaha
dealer service department or other qualified repair shop.

can this be done in my garage?
