Ok, after looking around for a XR600 and not finding anything worthy I came across a DRZ 400e going cheap. The plan is to have a reliable comuter bike with retro styling. Stock suspension and running gear, but with all metal tanks and gaurds all bolted to a custom bolt on subframe. Anyway here is where Im at.

A few shots of the progress

Following! Can we get some info on the wheels? Got a buddy with a DR that wants to shift to road wheels.

Hey, The wheels are 17" re spoked on the stock hubs. Im not reusing the stock radiators as they clash with the tank, either getting a custom one built or something off say a current model CBR 500.
Had a bit of set back last week, the PO tightened the bejesus out of every bolt on this bike, Ive had to cut a few off to remove parts, anyway whist undoing the header I snapped the cylinder head mount, so now I have to find a new head one and redo the top end on a perfect running motor.
Alloy fenders are in the mail, I can then complete tacking up mounts on the subframe before final welding everything.

New exhaust can to go with the FMF powerbomb header.

Nice build. Where did that exhaust can come from? Whats the width on the hoops?

I love how tuff this bike looks fenderless but as its going to be a commuter and to avoid large fines they have to go on. With a busy Xmas there was no real progress, but I got a chance to mock up the rear fender and battery box with duct tape and G clamps. The seat is off one of my other bikes and plate from another, I will make a complete side cover. Slug' the exhaust is from TYGA and rear hoop is 220mm wide. PJ

The Side covers are bead rolled, the seat pan has round bar tacked to the edges.
A little more progress. Fabrication is now finished on the rear end, so I started the front end. Yamaha IT inspired number plate. Dave
