Wont go into Neutral when on?

Been Around the Block
Has anyone gotten this problem? i picked her up and she needs a bad tuning, but still when its on idle, give it throttle it burbs etc, when i shift, and try to put it back in neutral it will not go into it unless bike is off. weird. !
 
Will it go into first or second when switching from one to the other? So neutral is bypassed or it won't shift at all?

Also... make, model, and year?
 
did you release the clutch to check? or just looking at the neutral light?
just asking lol
 
Could be any or a combination of things like idle too high, clutch cable / actuator needs adjusting, sticking clutch plates or wrong type of oil.
 
if it's a wet clutch, my money is on wrong type of oil or dirty oil. my 750 had this problem when I picked it up.
 
You just picked up a bike and it has problems? ::)
