GL500 Silverwing Scooped for $125

Yup, Blender is the bomb.

Ya, not perfect but I bet the patterns can be really close with some practice.

Here's the new & improved pattern.

Yeah, whenever I was prototyping with blender I would have to 3D print the part at whatever scale it was exported, take a critical measurement and scale up the print and print it again...
Not sure if it was blender itself or the software for my 3D printer..

But I used it more for architectural rendering...

Well I finally cut out the 1/2 scale paper tank and folded it up.

The mating lines on one side aren't even close but on the other end they matched pretty close... maybe I just cut one side more accurately.

The .0400 aluminum I have is too stiff to bend easily by hand... but if I get something thinner I think this pattern will work out.

I'll have to run back to the metal supply next week and see what I can find.

I checked into the Blender user facebook, thanks for sending the info.

Nice work on the pattern development. I use mostly 0.060 inch for tanks and a lot of guys use 0.080 inch aluminum. Are using the aluminum you pictured a few pages back? 6061 with a T6 temper is not too bend friendly and is not easy to anneal with home shop methods. Your bends aren't too severe but the yield strength of the T6 is going to make it harder to bend. If you can find a T4 temper it will bend a bit easier. Or if your plan is to braze 3003 is an option too. It's what most coach builders use. It anneals fairly easily, works easily and you can weld or braze. Personally I wouldn't go any thinner than 0.060.

Thanks, I think I can make the pattern work. It's super easy to draw the tanks in Blender. I'm also working a triple tree top clamp for another bike to possibly have machined somewhere.

Yes, I was planning on the 6061 but after your awesome info I'll look for the 3003 and yes on the brazing.

Thanks!!!!

Had a buddy at work start welding up the seat & supports at lunch today, getting there.

Also started making a new stand for the engine to sit on since the cheapy Harbor Freight plastic dolly broke in half.

7/8" tube inside the 1" tubing as reinforcement for the stand & seat connections.

I was beginning to wonder about this. Nice to see you're on it.
Looking good.
