Picked this up for $1000. Planning on having the frame and suspension powder coated black. While the tank, seat pan (yet to build) and engine will all be blasted and sprayed black professionally.

Its been 3 weeks since the purchase and I've managed to order about 80% of all the new parts! Which include new handle bar grips, brake master cylinder and clutch levers, braided black brake lines, black exhaust wrap, LED brake light, new chain, steering bearings, crank case filter, pod air filter.
Ive wrapped one of the exhausts and shaped it the way I want it. I will eventually build my own baffle to decrease noise and keep it legal. The gas tanks needs a rust removal and sealant but unfortunately my new puppy decided to steal the keys and bury them. Will be heading into a locksmith soon to have a key re cut for both the ignition and gas tank.
The frame has had a lot of paint removed and will be going in to be sand blasted and powder coated black.
Ive had experience with using fibre glass and tomorrow will consist of making a mould for the fibre glass seat pan.
The wiring harness will be re wrapped in a black heat shrink tubing.

Please give any tips or ideas, anything and everything is appreciated!

I sure am! Yeah it was advertised on gumtree a few weeks ago! I bought it within a few hours of it going up. very happy with it.

Had a few modifications done to the frame, including making a custom battery tray built into the seat pan and a loop added on the end. Should be done by friday ready for pick up! Parts ahve started arriving, including clear fuel lines and new piston.

Here are some pictures of the modifications I had made. The last photo shows a photo of the frame before the modifications for a comparison

Looking good eglintonw! How's the wheel clearance with that new hoop on the back? I'm also based in SA and am doing up RS as well. I have a few spares if you're chasing anything give us a yell just incase I have what you are after.

Just for my interest, what size is that rear sprocket?

Chris B.

Haven't checked the clearance yet! The wheels are being blasted and re painted. I'm having this sent in for powder coating next week.

I'm not sure of the size of the rear sprocket? How would I measure it? By teeth? Or diameter ?
I fairly certain its stock?

to be honest, I've never riden a motorcycle.. Or even worked on one.. This is just a project I was interested in trying! I will possibly sell it after I've finished it. All the painting is being done professionally free of charge pretty happy with it

Fingers crossed it clears alright!

I am just after the number of teeth, my wheel originally came with a 38t sprocket but when I ordered a new set of sprockets and chain it came with a 44t rear sprocket which I suspect is stock but wanted to be sure.

Only one way to learn! That's a great contact to have! I'm trying to find somewhere to spray my tank that won't cost a fortune. Would rather spray it myself but don't want to go spraying 2k clear in my apartment complex ;)

Is that the standard battery? As yours is the RSA kick start only model you could opt for a much smaller unit. I'm considering a 1.2ah unit myself, it's about the size of a small chocolate bar, cheap too. 58 x 43 x 97mm 600grams. £10GBP

Thanks Gumper, no reference in my manual either. Pretty confident 44t must be stock.

I've just bagged a proper workshop manual from fleabay, when it arrives I'll look to see if it confirms this, although I'm pretty sure 44t is standard.

Changing the subject somewhat. Do any of you fellow RS owners have their front end in bits. I'm looking into the possibility of a front end swap (due to the price of re-chroming or new stanchions) and would like some dimensions. i.e. Standard fork length, stem diameter off set and weight. I could measure mine but I've got the backend stripped.

Nice build buddy ;) Bringing back some memories  ;D http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=7941.0

Finally got the tank back from repairs. Final coat goes on next week. Powdercoated frame also hopefully arrives Tuesday. So excited
