  • We all knew Nate was going to piss on the party and we'd lose valuable drinking time so we didn;t bother

  • Ha, funny.  There were zero Mikes at Barber.  I hadn't thought of that.  Must be some weird profiling thing going on.
  • Oct 10, 2017, 08:39:24
  • SONIC.:
  • There was a distinct and disturbing lack of Mikes at barber this year.

  • ^^^ What Maritime said - I haven't met you guys yet but looking forward to hopefully putting that to rights this time next year.  Have fun and keep it shiny side up!

  • Oh I would love to be at Barber right now with all my DTT friends and Family, but I am stuck at work sadly. Have some beer for me all Y'all that get to go!

  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Think I'll go the safe route and order that LED from you mate =)
  • Oct 05, 2017, 18:17:50
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • That's great info, thanks man.  Gotta be honest - if you're at one end of the electrical knowledge spectrum consider me squarely at the other end - installing a voltmeter onto my bike has as much chance of happening as me speaking fluent Russian within 3 hours.  Electricity = mystification

  • That's what I have - the ribbon-style heat sink. I had to relocate a couple of the bulkier connectors, but it's all in there.
  • Oct 05, 2017, 13:55:00
  • Sonreir:
  • The heat sinks do take up more room to be sure, but the newer style heat sink (looks like a braided metal ribbon) can bend pretty easily or even exit the bucket and just hang out.
  • Oct 05, 2017, 13:16:12
  • Sonreir:
  • For anything made without a fuel pump, I usually just tell folks to toss in an LED and forget about high wattage halogens. The newer tech is better in almost every way.
  • Oct 05, 2017, 13:15:20
  • Sonreir:
  • Possible... 55W is a big draw over stock. I usually recommend against it, but you can test to see if it will work just by installing a voltmeter onto your bike.
  • Oct 05, 2017, 13:14:31
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • I'm going to check - I bought a halogen 55/60 watt bulb yesterday - think my electrical system (OEM '81 CB750K) will be up to the job?
  • Oct 05, 2017, 12:46:34
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Ha!  Hey there, heard you're the go-to guy for LED replacement bulbs.  I took a look, the only thing I'm not sure about is the space in my bucket - there's literally none of it
  • Oct 05, 2017, 12:45:49

  • Yep Cookie, without a heat sink they detonate pretty quick
  • Oct 05, 2017, 11:00:40
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Cool, thanks for the link I'll get in touch with Matt.  Only thing - there is literally zero room inside my bucket as it is and this looks like it'll take up more room than there is to spare!
  • Oct 05, 2017, 10:55:24
  • Cookie:
  • +1 for for Matt (I'd forgotten that he sells those).  As to that bulb that you posted, I tried something like that in my car once. Got me 25 minutes of runtime before they melted, I lost both low beams and to this day there are are still tiny LED emitters rattling about in my headlamps lol.

  • Matt's a good guy and he can ship into Canada without costing a fortune.

  • Jim I think Matt(Sonrier) who runs Sparkmoto has a bulb and the cable is a heat sink and there is no big fan etc. the one you linked may not work right in your housing.
  • Oct 05, 2017, 10:36:39
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • I had a look on fortnine and there is a direct plug in bulb - [link]   Think that'll do it?
  • Oct 05, 2017, 10:29:10
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Thanks for the link mate - not sure (i.e. no way) I'd fit all that extra crap into the headlamp housing - is there a bulb that would plug in directly?
  • Oct 05, 2017, 10:27:49
  • Cookie:
  • This is similar to what I have. Might have to add "clearance" for the LED cooling fan though. Some companies make 7" LED headlamps as well

  • Damn it. I just sold my spare to a coworker. It's a 30w LED that does 3300 lumens on low beam (by comparison, a 55w H4 does about 1500lm). I bought a kit from thw Mazda dealer i worked for and only needed the one bulb (obviously). You could try checking Fort Nine.
  • Oct 05, 2017, 10:21:07
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • That would do it - any idea where I can pick up that kind of thing?
  • Oct 05, 2017, 10:04:31
  • Maritime:
  • they are anal there for sure, and what if you went LED at 20 watts but puts out 75 watt equivalent?
  • Oct 05, 2017, 10:03:25
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Quebec does have it's own - ahem - special way of doing things though, maybe it's different elsewhere
  • Oct 05, 2017, 09:48:35
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • I had no idea - the Napa dude told me that 55 watts was the legal minimum requirement for headlights, at least here in Quebec
  • Oct 05, 2017, 09:47:51
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Thanks man, found a 55/60 watt bulb yesterday at Napa for $10 - hope that the wattage won't be too much for the electrical system on the bike.  I'll check the Clymers and see what gives
  • Oct 05, 2017, 09:47:18
  • Cookie:
  • You should look into some LED options.
  • Oct 05, 2017, 08:56:29
  • Cookie:
  • Any H4-size bulb should do the trick for you, and be relatively easy to acquire. The only major caveat will be the strain a higher out but bulb will impose on your electrical system.
  • Oct 05, 2017, 08:56:02
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Low beam on my headlight has failed and I'm shopping around for a new bulb - anyone know if a 60/55 watt bulb is gonna work on an '81 CB750?
