Bultaco Bandit El Montadero 360

Texasstar

Can't is a four letter dirty word
One motorcycle, two motorcycle , more motorcycles! Ah ah ah!

Well after 4 little 4 stroke twins brought back to life, a brief rest, and completed honey do list we are back! We didn't know DTT had an enduro section! Tapatalk is kinda screwy to navigate so back to the original web viewer.

Meet the second two stroke in the family. Zeke started on a DS80 and he says he has outgrown it but I haven't for some reason.

We told mom we would restore this one and sell it so she gave us the ok to bring it home. The plan is to restore the 71 El Montadero Mk2 360 back to its former glory.

Zeke has been degreasing and I have been doing homework since we brought "the mounting stone" home.

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

I think you will find very difficult to part with once you have it restored!

There is nothing like two-stroke power, and you can double that for an enduro machine.

Crazy

Very cool. I'm excited to follow along. I have to say, even with my lethargic XL175, riding an enduro has made me forget my CB (at least for the time being). They are such a blast to ride. I'm a little jealous of this sweet machine.

How to identify a Bultaco? So easy. There will be a b followed by a number on the frame and a M on the engine followed by the same number. The first two numbers are the model number if it is followed by a zero. If it is the first 3 numbers with no 0 it is the model number.

We want to give a shout out to Chuck and Cody at http://www.bultacowest.com/identify.php

Chuck is 80 and still crazy about Bultacos. He was kind enough to spend time on the phone with Zeke to tell him what to look for...if you go through the vintage motorcycle magazines you will find many adds from these guys over the years.

Kop stopped us in our tracks. He told us to get the flywheel puller and check the seals before trying to fire the bike up. Oh and don't try to use any other puller other than the correct one made for the Bultaco and similar bikes...ours is a Femsa flywheel with a femsatronic coil

Here is a troubleshooting guide for the coil and magneto. Our magneto checks out but I haven't figured out how to check the coil using this diagram so we put the negative in one and positive in the other plug wire and We got zip through the plug wires. http://www.stainlesscycle.com/bultaco/femsa/femsa1.html

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

So there is only one place that I have found that references a flywheel puller for the bandido and didn't find any reference for the Montadero. Hope we got the right one

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

Tex,
Is Zeke getting taller or are you starting to get "shrinkage"?
I loved the El Montadero 360's - they were never very many of them up here in Canada though.
I wanted to do something similar with an Alpina - thought it would make a great dual purpose ride (it was street legal up here in Canada), but couldn't get the ownership issues straightened out for the bike I was looking at.
Let us know what Zeke thinks of the chain primary drive.
