Rich, you are right. That stuff is like an old man in need of Viagra - it never seems to get hard.
What I did was to use a bright silver as a base coat to see if that would "lift' the color. It did but not enough. The bronze looks OK but I need to get out to the shop in daylight to see what it looks like in the sun.
Thanks Kev.
I was hoping to finish the color on the tank today but the temps are way down again, so that will have to wait until it gets warmer.
Then I can start on the side covers. I have to finish them off and take a mold and then make them and there's no way I'm doing that in the garage with smells going through the house.
Thanks guys.
At the moment it's silver. I didn't want too much contrast with white on black/red. I have to decide soon so I can clear coat it with 2K clear - it's rattle can two part.
For some reason, I wasn't happy with the paint combo. It looked a little dull or too much like an OEM color scheme so yesterday I decided to remove the tape and decals and rub it back for a different look. I played around with some color combos and in the end I decided I liked what I originally did as long as the tape is white and not silver. On the tail silver looked good but on the tank it didn't pop.
So now it's back to the rattle cans to burn another hole in the ozone layer.
And the Jemco chambers arrived, so I can do back to back dyno runs with three different pipe set ups.
After weeks of trying to work out a color scheme that I liked, I finally went back to where I started and this afternoon managed to shoot a coat of max2K Clear and it doesn't look too bad from a distance
This is what we started with....
All it took was some cutting and welding, and panel beating and bondo and a touch of paint. Not sure why it took so long... I just hope that the thing doesn't leak after all that work. It as been lined with a Caswell epoxy kit, but there's no guarantee that I got it into every nook and cranny. Well all know soon...
