So...... Managed to get the controls off the old handlebars and unthreaded the cables. Clipons now on and controls connected back up. The bike won't turn over now.
I have done continuity checks from the controls themselves and all seems fine, but have had a strange result with the magnetic switch that engages the starter. it was fine before, but the continuity check back to the magnetic switch fails.
the wiring diagram I have for the CB550F has different colours listed against what i see on the bike and there is evidence on newer wires in there.
Can someone tell me if the starter push button connects directly to the magnetic starter switch and if they have a cb550F 1977 wiring diagram that might be more accurate than what I have.
