78 SR500 Brat tracker

78 SR500 SoCal Brat Tracker

The wiring on these SRs is really simple. It's all plug and play with big easy to use connectors.
Don't let that intimidate you, unplugging and replugging is pretty fool proof ;)

Re: 78 SR500 SoCal Brat Tracker

i want to hide alot of the connections so im gonna have to make some wires longer

Re: 78 SR500 SoCal Brat Tracker

Wrapped my exhaust this morning, sounds pretty different, someone was telling me its bad for the header, I have always herd it was better...
Any opinions?

Nice work man! How do you like those tires? I am thinking about getting a pair for my XT.

Re: 78 SR500 SoCal Brat Tracker

Ground the mounts brake caliper mounts off the right side of the forks, I do not plan on ever putting dual front brakes on, it came with it but i do not care for the look. If i feel the need for stronger braking down the road I will fit a dual piston bembo on it.
DID THIS A WHILE AGO BUT NEVER GOT AROUND TO POSTING IT.

Re: 78 SR500 Desert Sled

Bike has been smoking more and completely soaked a spark plug in oil, its time to freshen up the top end. pulled the motor out and baking soda blasted the block.

tore it apart my rocker faces are worn out my cam has wear, cylinder is coned. Ordered new cam rockers and a slightly bigger piston. Ordered the new rocker box oiler hopefully to prevent future wear. also blasted the top end.

Re: 78 SR500 Desert Sled

What did you blast it with? Looks a lot like vapor blasting but most don't have that setup available.

78 SR500 Desert Sled

I'd assume a really thorough soda blasting job?

Re: 78 SR500 Desert Sled

Engine went back together pretty smoothly, i blasted the top end in my neighbors blasting cabinet with glass bead. threw a torq cone in the exhaust port i notice a lot less reversion then before. the wires coming from my stator were in pretty rough shape, i wrapped them in water proof heat shrink individually and put new loom around them. just riding around breaking it in now.
