Worked on it the past 2 summers, rebuilt from forks with progressive springs, new front and rear wheel bearings, new needle steering stem bearings, new swingarm bushings, new front and rear sprockets, new gaskets throughout, new front and rear spokes, etc, etc.

here's how it currently sits:

Not enough rear clearance, gotta decide between new shocks, moving shock mount or moving up the bottom of the cowl so that the tire compresses into the rear cowl (will hold battery/electronics but should have enough room. I'm all ears to suggestions.

Left to do: Engine rebuilt (mocked up to give to the mechanic), new wiring, setting up rearset controls, setting up brakes/bleeding/etc, Painting the cowl / frame (Gloss black)

Just figured I should make a post considering all the help I've received on this forum!

When i originally purchased the bike, it had its stock carbs. I was later informed that the kz400 carbs were notoriously finicky and hard to sync and after doing some looking around on a kz400 forum thought this setup might be a better fit and cut down on maintenance long term. Carb is from a Honda CR125

Here's an example of a kz400 with a similar setup

I have yet to try it out to be honest, I'm not all that mechanically inclined so i was mocking it up for my mechanic to finish up. Nice to see someone else trying a similar setup

I can appreciate the space constraints but 270 degrees of direction change for a fuel charge is... well, nuts. I'm sure it runs but you're severely limiting your performance doing it that way.

Then again this isn't a race bike. And it's not my bike so I should just STFU.

Re: 1976 KZ400D - First Build (Picture Heavy) - Updated after 2 years

Figured those who looked originally were owed a "where are they now" update. Ended up finishing the bike at the end of 2017, long journey to say the least. Now up for sale unfortunately, but ill always have the photos and memories.
