MIKUNI carby

ACEitup

Been Around the Block
Hey all replaced my standard carby
this arvo with a Chinese Mukini off ebay
Decided to start this project early in the week
as I would have a few days up my sleeve to adjust
tweak and repair any cock ups I made!
After replacing exhaust the other week, I felt the bike
was ready for this step.
Just bolted it , didn't even turn an idle screw!!
straight out of the box (padded chinse bag Actually)
woot!
Pretty happy with performance on the short run up the shops!
Success at my first real mechanical task
cheers ACEitup
PS here's the link for the mikuni if u want it

Presumably you had to leave the choke cable off looking at hose pics.

Does the choke stay in whatever position you set it??

Mikey,
Yeah, you reach down to flick it on or off
but now my bike is run in a bit, 1300ks
with mods I don't need use the choke at all ?

cool, thats good to know, are you still using the airbox or a diffrent filter ?
Hey Sprocket,
Still have airbox,
but I want remove side panels to give it opened up naked look
looking at moving battery up to under rear of seat,
so air box has to go, researching info on pods, but it would seem from other forums
I'm unlikey gain any performance out of it?
any one done this yet?
input would be appreciated
Cheers ACEitup

I'm running the PEX performance pod from ooracing on my standard carb.
http://www.ooracing.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=3720
Couldn't get it to work with the upgraded jets from the 303 kit from ooracing, so had to put the standard ones back in.
After some fine tuning it's running great. I love the extra intake noise, I'm still running the standard exhaust.

thanks aceitup. stacks with foam "sock' filters over the ends is better then pods from what i hear. i was thinking you might be able to put a pod on the rubber inlet between the carb and airbox.

I have the PEX on my rejetted standard carb, runs no problems. Not sure what the rejetting was though as Jonno did it along with the sports exhaust before I had the bike delivered

Mine just needs a little tickle to start from cold (it was about 4c this morning) but I've had to remove the cable & the standard carb doesn;t lock in position from the lever as its spring loaded

Hey Sprocket'
I like like that look! but
been reading about difficultly in tuning, selecting jets etc
with pods/stacks ?
however think i will have a crack anyway after a few weeks riding as is?
(always takes that long for stuff to arrive from china anyway!)
learnin so much and Im a
bit of a newbie with mechanical stuff? what foam sock would fitted those stacks?
ps still chasing that red screen for u

the stacks are better then pods, look at old race bikes, they ran stacks but not pods. the stack smooths air flow and creates pressure and vacum better then pods.
i dont know what to search for , but you can get cloth dirt bike prefilters that might be ok,
i have no idea if this is the right size or not for that stack. but something like this might work. but you might have to modify it etc. it wont be plug and play.

speaking of stacks did I see a pic on here of somene running something like one of these??

EDIT : Doh just followed a link back up there, sorry sprocket

You're in the same boat as me, being a relative newbie. I've always been more interested in 60s muscle cars, and many of the resorations of these using velocity stacks would have little foam balls sitting in them, and these could be removed from what I could tell. This would from my perspective completely destroy the function behind a velocity stack, and any performance gains would be moot. If you're in it for the looks then no reason why not.

The ooracing one looks awesome. Saves me learning to rejet it. Just have to learn to replace the existing one now! :D

Can't oblige with the stack but this is my PEX (hmm and looking back at it it appears theres a rubber grommet for the panel pushed out)

HI All,
found this helpful if anyone else is running a mikuni carb set-up
and making mods

I've posted this elsewhere, but this is a more logical place!
